Andrew Lawton: City have to hit the target from there. Kevin de Bruyne wasted out wide and looks so much more dangerous in a central position.

Hugh in France: Real should have it in their heads that they need two more goals.

"Manchester City have competed but there's been little created in the final third. They've not got near Aguero. For me De Bruyne has to play more centrally."

It looks like the Real Madrid goal will be going down as an own goal for Fernando after Gareth Bale's shot deflected off the Manchester City man.

Manchester City still in this but they need to step it up in the second half. They didn't offer too much of an attacking threat in the opening 45 minutes.

"Good football from Manchester City. The best bit of play they've had coming forward. Maybe if Fernandinho goes the other side he scores but he really is unlucky."

    That's better!

Kevin de Bruyne turns just outside the D and plays a quick pass to Fernandinho, who shoots from 22 yards and the ball smacks the outside of the post.

Two minutes of timed added on at the end of this half.

Patrick Dann: City are still in this. Real hardly look unbeatable. Just one goal.

John Pierce: City way off it. Going out with a whimper, change in midfield required.

Ollie Hall: Can you imagine Modric and Bale in the current Spurs squad? Guaranteed Champions.

  8. Postpublished at 44 mins

Real Madrid 1-0 Man City (1-0 agg)

Gareth Bale fancies a go from distance but Joe Hart is behind it all the way and makes a comfortable save.

Still, another shot on target for the hosts. None so far for Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini said Manchester City would attack in this game, but we've not seen much of that. Sergio Aguero is far too isolated and they are not even threatening from set pieces as Kevin de Bruyne's corner is caught easily by Keylor Navas. City need to find another gear.

"When they up the gears Real Madrid really are fabulous to watch. What a brilliant pass from Modric with the outside of his boot out wide to Marcelo."

A deceptive camera angle means for a moment Marcelo's effort looks to be heading towards the far corner. A few 'ooohs' from the home fans, but the ball actually drifts out for a throw.

Real Madrid 1-0 Man City (1-0 agg)

Sergio Aguero has now not managed a shot on target in 470 minutes of Champions League football. The City striker has barely had a sniff near the Madrid area so far tonight, all of his 16 touches coming well outside of the box.

Real Madrid 1-0 Man City (1-0 agg)

Sergio Aguero gets caught in the face by Sergio Ramos' hand and Manchester City have a free-kick midway inside the Real Madrid half. It's worked forward and Bacary Sagna's low cross is almost tapped in by Aguero but Isco is across to put it behind for a corner.

"As soon as De Bruyne made the challenge on Marcelo Sergio Ramos had his hand in the air saying 'book him'... and the ref did.

"City have to get De Bruyne on the ball more if they're to get something from this game. It was nice to see him wondering around in possession before that foul."
