We already know one finalist in this season's Champions League after Atletico Madrid knocked out Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich last night.

It means Guardiola leaves Bayern for Manchester City without a Champions League triumph at the German giants.

Will it be awkward if Manuel Pellegrini win the whole thing for City before Guardiola takes over from him?

Just as desperate as Cristiano Ronaldo to be the star of the show tonight will be Gareth Bale.

One year ago, he was booed by Real Madrid fans as the Spanish side exited the Champions League to Juventus.

Fast forward to today, though, and he is bang in form with 15 goals in his past 16 games.

"Maybe last season I didn't play to anywhere near to my potential," he said. "It's good to have a bad season, you really do learn a lot about yourself and I feel this season I took last season on board.

"Hopefully there is a lot still more to come in the future."

PJM, Glasgow: Well I know city haven't a good track record of winning in Spain. But they don't need to win. 1-1 draw will do nicely.

Will Wayne Rooney be remembered fondly for his goal-scoring exploits in 20 years?

Cristiano Ronaldo's confidence about his place in football history has got me thinking - how will we remember some of the big-name players of this generation?

What do you think people will be saying about Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in 20 years time? How do you think Wayne Rooney will be remembered in a couple of decades?

Let us know how you think today's big name players will be remembered in years to come via #bbcfootball, text in on 81111 (UK only) or post a comment on the Match of the Day Facebook page.

Cristiano Ronaldo. Modest lad isn't he?

He sat down with Uefa.com recently and, when asked how he will be remembered in 20 or 30 years, he said: "I don't doubt that I will go down in footballing history.

"Whether people like it or not, the numbers speak for themselves. I will be up there with the rest. Some like it more, some like it less, but I have no doubt that I'm already in the history of football."

With 93 goals, he has scored more in the Champions League than any other player. I reckon he's earned the right to big himself up a bit.

So what do Manchester City do? Stick half their team on Ronaldo?

That's not what Manuel Pellegrini is thinking because for the City boss there is more to Real Madrid than the forward.

"Cristiano will always be a different player,” he said. “He has scored a lot of goals in his six years here but I don’t think Real Madrid is just Cristiano.

"If he plays, we must cope with it. We must defend and attack as a team, not just against Cristiano but against Real Madrid.”

Let's forget Manchester City versus Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium ever happened.

The first leg of this Champions League semi final was dull and uneventful but it was also without Cristiano Ronaldo.

Forty-seven goals this season for the Portuguese forward, 16 of those coming in the Champions League, and the bad news for Manchester City is that he is fit to face them tonight.

It is all to play for after a goalless draw in the first leg, but keeping Ronaldo quiet will surely be key to determining whether City can progress.

On the 5 May 1996, Manchester City were relegated from the Premier League, setting in motion a period of decline for the club that would see them slump to third tier of English football within two years.

Two decades, two Premier League titles, a couple of League Cups and an FA Cup triumph later, they stand on the verge of history. They are one game away from reaching a first-ever Champions League final.

The only problem is who is standing in their way...
