France now looking for a spell of possession to strangle Iceland out of contention. As Lawro says, Iceland have been behind in the tournament before and rallied.

There was so much space. He's onside, there's no doubt about that. It's a really poor goal for Iceland to concede. It's a great finish.

Iceland have been here before. I don't think they'll change the way they play at all.

Really good finish from Olivier Gioroud. He had an awful lot of time to think about it after timing his run perfectly, and he drove it through the keeper into the far corner.

    Olivier Giroud

Ah, as I was saying, he's a cracking player that Olivier Giroud...

Great finish and it's a simple goal in the end as Blaise Matuidi helps a long ball over a high line from the Icelandic defence, Giroud has pulled between the centre-half and the right back, bears down on goal and then shoots low, left-footed and early. Straight through the legs of Hannes Thór Halldórsson and in.

    France 0-0 Iceland

Olivier Giroud's place in this France team must be hanging by a thread. The new Guivarc'h.

He can't get a simple ball under control and he's stripped of possession by Ragnar Sigurdsson - who was magnificent v England.

We expect France to have an awful lot of possession, and Iceland know they cannot outplay the the French. But they've had a few half-chances, though Iceland. Three already.

It would be such a shame for any of their nine players on a yellow card to miss the semi-finals if they do get through.

Iceland have started brightly. They are showing no respect, which is really healthy.

    France 0-0 Iceland

The seal clap - that's what I'm going with - has its first proper run through from the Iceland fans and it's magnificent. It leads to another half chance as a ball forward is flipped on and Birkir Bjarnason shoots wide from 20 yards.

Iceland have started well. Very well.

  9. Postpublished at 8 mins

    France 0-0 Iceland

By this stage of the Iceland v England game we had already had two goals. Aron Gunnarsson chops down Dimitri Payet and he's rather fortunate not to pick up a semi-final-cancelling yellow.

    France 0-0 Iceland

Samuel Umtiti has settled in well early in his international debut, he's had plenty of the ball. France move methodically forwards, Paul Pogba tees up Dimitri Payet for a shot and it's gathered in by Hannes Thór Halldórsson at the second attempt.

Iceland have that long throw in their armoury and they even have the long throw decoy. Aron Gunnarsson winds up to hurl one in but ends up going short, the ball finds its way to Gylfi Sigurdsson in the area and he is able to get a shot off, easy save for Hugo Lloris though.

France have the early play and Dimitri Payet whips in a free-kick which runs harmlessly out of play. The French took 90 minutes to break down a stubborn Albania side early in the tournament. Have they learned their lesson?

It's like an Icelandic evening. It's cold. Every time I've seen France, they've shown fear. If Iceland can make that happen tonight, then who knows?

Something tells me Iceland might do this. The French have been unbelievably respectful, it's almost as if they've welcomed Iceland in, saying: 'Enjoy yourselves because you're going to go out.' But after what Leicester have done, what Wales have done, this is going to be tighter than people think.
