If it wasn't for David de Gea Spain would be well and truly out of this contest.

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 56 mins

This is a chance to maybe win it. The ball is played forward, Graziano Pelle flicks it on, and Eder is through, one-on-one. Guess who stops him? That man David de Gea. Very good save again.

  3. 'Shoot, David'published at 18:12 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

So often David Silva gets into those great positions and he's so unselfish. Do it yourself, get a shot off.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 54 mins

    Italy 1-0 Spain

    De Rossi

Spain are on top here and waste a chance to shoot on the edge of the box. Thiago Motta is coming on for Daniele de Rossi, who looks like he might have a knock. Motta is an able replacement, though.

Watched him for Paris St-Germain this season, and I'm not sure he put a foot wrong in a whole game.

    Italy 1-0 Spain

Spain are playing like they have had a ticking off at half-time. Cesc Fabregas, who delivered the ball to Alvaro Morata's earlier chance, then shoots from 25 yards but it's well wide.

  6. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Italy 1-0 Spain

Spain come again and Alvaro Morato wins another free-kick on the corner of the penalty area on the left side. The cross is headed clear by Giorgio Chiellini. Who else?

  7. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Italy 1-0 Spain

Daniele de Rossi heads it up to concede a corner, and when it's delivered to Alvaro Morata, he is free six yards out but heads straight at Gigi Buffon. What a miss.

  8. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Italy 1-0 Spain

Juanfran plays a decent one-two with David Silva down the right, attempts to cross but his effort is handballed by Leonardo Bonucci. Free-kick in a dangerous position.

  9. 'Where will Morata go?'published at 18:05 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on Radio 5 live

I'm not sure that was the change I thought was going to happen. Will Alvaro Morata go to that left-hand side where Nolito was?

  10. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Italy 1-0 Spain

You cannot call Italy a solely counter attacking team, they are full on, and here they come again. Alessandro Florenzi, who has been brilliant, gets to the right byline and crosses low but Gerard Pique pokes away for a corner. Sergio Ramos then clears despite the ball bouncing in the six-yard area.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Italy 1-0 Spain

Spain make a change as Aritz Aduriz comes on for Nolito, who has been on the margins. Italy get us under way.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:01 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

Some would say David de Gea has kept Spain in this game, he made another world class save just before half-time. If you missed it watch it again here.

  13. 'It was almost unfair at times'published at 18:01 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

    Thierry Henry
Former France international on BBC One

I have never seen a Spain team like that before. It was almost unfair at times. What Italy is doing right now - it's how you should play a team like Spain. They have the tactics down to a tee.

  14. Box to box from Italypublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

The comparative touch map tells a story. Look at how many touches Italy have had in the opposition penalty box (left) compared to Spain, but then look at how many defensive touches Spain have had in their own box too (right). Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique have been busy, with Pique looking knackered at times. That's not something you see very often.

  15. 'Italy are aggressive at the right times'published at 17:54 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

    Vincent Kompany
Belgium and Manchester City captain on BBC One

I am enjoying this Italian performance as much as I did seeing Eden Hazard play for Belgium last night. They keep the spaces tight and are aggressive at the right time. They haven't made any mistakes so far.

  16. 'Spain lethargic and confused'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

Which is Italy and which is Spain? I can't believe it. Sometimes Italy are defending the territory and sometimes pushing up the pitch. Spain have been lethargic and a bit confused.

  17. 'Italy are technically better'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

  18. #bbceuro2016published at 17:51 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

Love of Football: This Spanish team looks devoid of ideas and cohesion - apart from Iniesta can't see anyone else doing much

PressOfficePeter: Can see Spain going out here. Nothing lasts forever

  19. Postpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    Italy 1-0 Spain

    Paul Fletcher
BBC Sport at Stade de France in Paris

A huge roar for Italy at the whistle - deservedly so.

They have swarmed all over a team that looks way pasts its prime. It is almost like watching a boxer with too many rounds in the legs. Sad to see.

Heated words between several Italians as they walked off. It is just so obvious they want this so much.

Without David de Gea this match would probably be over.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:50

    Italy 1-0 Spain

The 3-5-2 system works wonderfully when you have the right players to build it on. Width from the wing-backs, three rock solid defenders and two up front to cause havoc. What's not to like?

"This is how you should play a team like Spain," says Thierry Henry.
