Tom Beere's first ever goal from Wimbledon could endear himself to the Dons faithful for life as it edges them closer to a play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

The player, who only recently returned from a loan spell in non-league football, showed supreme calm to take his chance in the 93rd minute. His first effort was blocked, his second was slotted just inside the post.

Accrington also had their chances, hitting the post in the second half. You can read the full report here.

The Dons take a valuable lead with them to the Crown Ground for the return leg on Wednesday, but just like Portsmouth's semi-final with Plymouth, this one remains delicately poised.

This is it from us tonight, but join us again tomorrow as play-off football continues with Bradford v Millwall in League One and then Plymouth v Portsmouth in League Two.

Wimbledon match-winner Tom Beere told Sky Sports: It isn't about me scoring. I'd take any goal for anyone. It was a great team performance.

"It's only one goal and I think we could have had a couple more tonight, but we'll take any win."

    Wimbledon 1-0 Accrington

Tom Beere's goal in the 93rd minute gives Wimbledon a slender semi-final lead going into the return leg against Accrington.

The Dons will be happy to take something with them on the road. That was an astonishing finish because Dons goalkeeper Kelle Roos played a huge part in the final seconds as he kept out Shay McCartan at the other end.

What a marvellous save from Wimbledon's Kelle Roos to keep a diving header from Shay McCartan out.

    Incredible finish to this game...

Tom Beere is a Wimbledon hero off the bench.

He has only been on the field for seven minutes and after his first effort is blocked, he gathers the ball and himself to squeeze in a hugely significant goal for the Dons.

It must be said that Adebayo Akinfenwa had a huge part to play in setting that up with his work on the byline to drill a pass in.

We are into the first minute of five additional minutes at the end of this play-off semi-final first leg.

  8. CLOSEpublished at 89 mins

    Wimbledon 0-0 Accrington

We have been treated to Beast Mode to the MAX this half, with Adebayo Akinfenwa slamming an effort off the post.

So close, oh so very close to putting Wimbledon ahead. He used all his might - this is a guy that can bench press 28 stone - to make room for himself to shoot. Boom, went the dynamite. A goal, however, it was not.

  9. SUBSTITUTION (Accrington)published at 87 mins

Accrington make their final change as Piero Mingoia is replaces by Shay McCartan.

  10. Wimbledon 0-0 Accringtonpublished at 86 mins

A moment of controversy here as Accrington defender Tom Davies has a free-kick come off his hand in the area.

There was a lot of tussling in the box with the ball aimed at Wimbledon's Adebayo Akinfenwa, but with his arm up in the air as he attacked the ball that hand of Davies' certainly helped Stanley's cause.

With less than 10 minutes to go Wimbledon will be looking to lift... just like this Dons fan has done in the crowd, I guess.

But seriously, with time ticking away and a tough return leg to look forward to on Wednesday, Wimbledon could do with an advantage of some sort to take on the road with them.

  12. SUBSTITUTION (Wimbledon)published at 78 mins

    Wimbledon 0-0 Accrington

Accrington go to the bench for a second time, with Billy Kee off for Terry Gornell.

Just a few minutes earlier, Wimbledon also made a change as Lyle Taylor made way for Adebayo Azeez.

Wimbledon go close again as Jake Reeves pulls the trigger. Just wide.

The hosts with the momentum right now and they are pressing hard for the opener.

That's a sight to behold and fear in equal measure. The ball falls for Wimbledon's Adebayo Akinfenwa on the edge of the box and the forward wraps his foot around it. However, the shot is desperately blocked. .

  16. ouch!

Wimbledon 0-0 Accringtonpublished at 69 mins

Double ouch this one. Accrington's Billy Kee getting attention after a head clash with Wimbledon's Paul Robinson. And the bandages go around Kee's head.

Earlier, Wimbledon's Sean Rigg had a similar bandage around his noggin. The look is all the rage, it seems.

I say it's quiet, then the home support chooses to get noisy.

The reason? Well, a free-kick from the right for the Dons aimed for Adebayo Akinfenwa will do that. However, danger is cleared.

  18. Wimbledon 0-0 Accringtonpublished at 65 mins

Right now, that crowd is pretty quiet as Accrington are again looking on top of proceedings. That said, there is not much in the way for anyone to cheer about.

  19. CHANCEpublished at 61 mins

    Wimbledon 0-0 Accrington

Accrington's Tarique Fosu hits the foot of the post. Fosu does well to create room for himself to shoot, great effort. Wimbledon keeper Kelle Roos may even have got a palm on that.

Fosu has been on the field for three minutes and manages to do more than anyone has for an hour.

It all came from a dangerous free-kick on the right that Wimbledon struggled to properly clear.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 58 mins

    Wimbledon 0-0 Accrington

Both sides make their first substitutions. Accrington's Tarique Fosu comes on for Sean McConville and... (pause for effect)

THE BEAST Adebayo Akinfenwa - all 5ft 11in of 16 stone footballer - replaces Tom Elliott for Wimbledon.
