    Spain 0-0 Czech Republic

Spain played 7,573 passes in qualifying. That's over 400 more than nearest rivals Germany.

Today they will produce several hundred again it seems. A free-kick in the Czech half is crossed in through, a little more direct, headed high and wide by Sergio Ramos.

    Spain 0-0 Czech Republic

The ball is pinged around at pace by Spain, David Silva, Nolito and Alvaro Morata involved but a Sergio Busquets pass 25 yards from goal is seized upon by Vladimir Darida. Good anticipation and a classic example of how to break these waves of passes up.

When Spain have the ball they are faced with 10 white shirts, a 4-5-1 formation with only Tomas Necid staying forward and even he is dropping well into his half. Spain will have expected that and would have known this will be all about finding a way through.

A poor cross-field pass by Jordi Alba goes out for a throw but back they come for another go...

We have just seen the dirtiest tackle of Euro 2016 so far. Alvaro Morata goes in two footed on the linesman.

In his defence, there was no intent. A slip saw him clatter the man with the flag.

Spain have not conceded at the Euros since Italy's Antonio di Natale goal in the opening game of their 2012 campaign, the longest run in the history of the tournament.

We've seen flashes of the Czech Republic early on to suggest that record could come under threat.

Juanfran - the Atletico Madrid full-back is in a wide area but refuses to cross. He moves the ball back and eventually gets it back. This time he will deliver, good hooked clearance in the six-yard box.

Spain begin to settle but it's a positive start at both ends really.

Positive start from Czech Republic. It is a dangerous area for a free-kick.

    Spain 0-0 Czech Republic

Tomas Necid is a yard too quick for Gerard Pique and wins a free-kick in a dangerous area. A chance to shoot from the angle of post and area but Vladimir Darida's effort carries the kind of power a toddler generates in the back garden. Into the wall and a waste.

    Spain 0-0 Czech Republic

Theodor Gebre Selassie wins a corner for Czech Republic early on and the delivery leads to another one.

Ladislav Krejci will swing it in... headed clear and Spain hold strong.

Gerard Pique finds Sergio Busquets, I've written than a few times in the past. Andres Iniesta on it, the captain for Spain... into Nolito who is flagged offside.

Czech Republic look compact without the ball. Will they be happy to let Spain get the ball out wide?

I don't think it is strongest Spanish team. It is important Spain try and get off to a winning start against a huge Czech side.

    Set pieces could be important.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

Shock horror. Spain go long off the kick-off and Petr Cech will get an early goal kick. That wasn't what we expected.

It looks slick and wet in Toulouse, just the type of surface you want against a passing side eh?

    Not quite.

    We're off.

Spain v Czech republic (14:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

"Czech Republic play some nice football and will be easy on the eye but I do not see them causing Spain too many problems.

"The defending champions have got a decent chance of a third straight triumph but their team is not as strong as the one that won Euro 2012."

    Prediction: 1-0

The national anthems in Toulouse, a city steeped in Spanish history as so many fled to the region during and after the Spanish civil war. It is estimated that one in 10 inhabitants of the city were Spanish back in 1944.

As ever, the Spanish anthem  booms out and Vicente del Bosque looks on with a serious face. Gerard Pique gives their fans a thumbs up as the final note is played. Spain are ready...

    BBC Monitoring

Czech Republic defender Tomas Sivok says playing against Spain is an "onslaught on the psyche" which is as much of a mental challenge as a physical one.

"The Spanish can punish every wrong step" he is quoted saying in Mlada Fronta Dnes, "Miscalculation means punishment".

Spain v Czech Republic (14:00 BST)

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague on BBC Radio 5 live: "I feel Spain have been doing the same thing for too long and we have been worked out.

"Xavi is not there and it is a bit slow. We have quality, I am not concerned that Costa and Torres are not there.

"Spain will do what Spain always do, pass the ball around, get the ball to full backs and to the striker who will finish.

"We won the World Cup with 1-0s. In qualifying we didn’t score that much and that is our concern."

Here is a stat to worry any Czech Republic fans or those who drew them in the office sweepstake.

Just five teams failed to keep a clean sheet in qualifying.

You may not be shocked to hear Gibraltar, Andorra, Malta and Moldova are in that group, as are the Czechs. Pavel Vbra's side are by no means mean.
