    June 2004.

Around the time a fresh-faced Jose Mourinho walked in at Chelsea and Rafael Benitez joined Liverpool, that's how far back you have to go since Spain lost a fixture at the European Championships.

A Nuno Gomes goal did for them that day, giving Portugal victory, but Spain's era of dominance was about to begin.

It's now over to a new generation, no more Carles Puyol, no more Xavi, no more David Villa. Surely they can't win a third-straight Euros?

World Cup 2010 came and Ramos (still long hair but not as long) picked up the biggest trophy in the game. Still they weren't done...

Euro 2012 (Ramos sporting a neat trim) delivered more Spanish joy but then, with a bang, came defeat at the 2014 World Cup - in the group stage no less.

So what's that they say about a true champion? It's how you respond to adversity that counts.

Spain haven't known adversity for so long, now is when we will see if that winning mentality they have harvested is here to stay forever...
