"Iceland's goal gave them a new head of steam but they just look like they're coming off the pace again now. They're getting back deep behind the ball but aren't leaving anyone up top. It keeps coming back."

Almost silence inside the stadium. Iceland fans are nervous, Portuguese fans are nervous.

The 2004 runners-up are having all the ball but the minnows are standing firm.

Vieirinha plays in a low cross into the box, which Nani almost backheels in, but Hannes Halldorsson is off his line to smother.

Brilliant defending from former Rotherham man Kari Arnason, who powerfully heads away the resulting free-kick.

In a 2012 interview Arnason said: “I like the players who don’t have the natural physical attributes. For example, Jan Molby. He was this fat player who played for Liverpool but he was absolutely brilliant.

"Players like that appeal to me, not players like Cristiano Ronaldo who can run the 100 metres in under 10 seconds.”

Ronaldo would love to score one tonight.

Paul Edwards: Cheered louder for that #Iceland, external goal than when Dier scored on Saturday.

Jay: What is with this Euros & volleys/half volleys? Everyone seems to be banging them in perfectly at will

Sho Rahman: Horrific defending from Vierinha.

Bedlam, absolute bedlam inside The Green Cauldron.

A hammer blow for Portugal as Birkir 'Thor' Bjarnason volleys in Iceland's equaliser.

Portugal full-back Vieirinha falls asleep at the back post as the Icelander comes in unchallenged to sweep in Johann Gudmundsson's cross.

The Iceland fans go wild, what a moment for their nation.

    Portugal 1-0 Iceland

Portugal monopolising possession like a greedy person at a buffet, they want this game all to themselves.

Have the referees been lenient in the tournament so far? A foul on Andre Gomes goes unpunished.

    But wait....

    Ooh, not too far off.

Cristiano Ronaldo has his first sighter in the second half. A high ball drops nicely to him on the edge of the box and the Real Madrid man is confident to take it on the volley, but his radar is slightly off as his left-footed driller bounces a yard or two wide.

    Would have been a cracker.

"You have to say that Portugal do look a good outfit. With the way they play you'd imagine they'll turn it on again with a fast first 20 minutes of this second half before looking to keep a few players fresh with some changes."

No changes from either side, so both might be content enough as to how the opening period went.

Iceland are a goal down but have battled well, they need to keep their concentration and continue it for 90 minutes though. Easier said than done.

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo will break Figo's record when Portugal play Austria in Paris on Saturday.

If he scores against Iceland, he will become the first player to net in four different European Championships.

He might wait until the weekend to strike a double record-breaker.

"Ronaldo doesn't do a lot in terms of coming into midfield, but if you put the ball into the box, more often than not he will score. And the ball in to him in behind is always on. The chance he missed was actually a very difficult skill - but you expect him to finish."
