"A great move by Portugal, started at the back. They've had a lot of joy down the wings, and this time Nani's there with a quality finish. You have to say, it's been coming."

    Nani (30 mins)

    It's a Portu-gooooooooal.

A lovely worked move on the right-hand side of the pitch sees the Icelandic defence carved open.

Andre Gomes, a man linked with Manchester United, slides a ball into the path of Nani, who makes no mistake with his finish at the near post.

Green and red flags waves in the crowd. It was coming.

Iceland's Birkir Saevarsson on the rampage from right-back. He eases his way past Joao Mario in the middle of the park, but then runs in to the rugged Ricardo Carvalho who, at the tender age of 38, makes an exceptionally timed sliding tackle on the Iceland player.

That was shades of the mid-2000s in his time at Chelsea when he kept Premier League strikers in his pocket.

    Cristiano Ronal-DOH!

Remember Italy's first goal last night? Portugal try the same trick as Pepe launches a straight ball forward. It's on a plate for the Real Madrid man, but only succeeds in an air shot as he fails to connect with the ball.

Hannes Halldorsson gratefully comes out to gather. A let off for Iceland.

First rule of defending? Don't let the ball bounce.

Pepe does just that and it puts him in a bit of trouble as Birkir Bjarnason almost gets on the end of it, but Portugal scramble to clear.

First sniff of the Iceland goal for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid man displays some hangtime as he rises to get on the end of a cross, similar to the goal he scored in the 2008 Champions League final, but 1. he fails to hit the target and 2. Wes Brown wasn't the man crossing the ball.

"Cristiano Ronaldo finally gets one-on-one and the cross he produces is absolute class, beats the whole back three. It should be 1-0. It's a great save, the keeper spreads himself big, but Nani has got to score."

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 22 mins

Here we go. Crisitano Ronaldo shifting the ball from left to right, putting the Iceland full-back Birkir Saevarsson in a spin before chipping an inviting ball into the six-yard box for Nani to attack, but his low header is kept out brilliantly by Hannes Halldorsson.

It was straight at the goalkeeper, but he had to be in that position to stop it. Excellent stuff. He'll make a music video of that after the game.

Lucia in the sky: What?!! 16 minutes in and no goal from Ronaldo? The man's a dud.

Adam Pake: Portuguese centre-backs have a combined age of 71. Reckon Iceland strikers could have a go at that.

Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson gets his knuckles warmed for the first time.

It comes courtesy of Portugal right-back Vieirinha, who is unchallenged as he cuts in from the right, but his well-struck left-footed shot from outside the area is above the head of the keeper, who punches in the air, before collecting at the second attempt.

Portugal now looking to get into a rhythm, as they start to get some passing going for the first time in the match.

The ball is being worked one way and another, but Valencia man Andre Gomes eventually loses possession as he tries to slip a ball through the Icelandic defence.

They may be called Iceland, but they're playing like Waitrose at the moment. High quality produce thus far.

Portugal have had more than 60% possession so far but interestingly most of Iceland's (on the right) touches have been in Portugal's half. Not sure what we can read into it, but it's noteworthy all the same.
