Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson on Radio Scotland: "Gordon Greer didn't know what he was doing there, but he got away with it. I don't understand what he is up to - it has got to be cleared with his left foot but he goes for a side-foot with his right and gets it all wrong. He rode his luck there."

Bacary Sagna's cross from the right is cleared most unconvincingly by Gordon Greer - the big man stuck out his right foot and knocked the ball just over his own crossbar, when you'd have expected him to adjust his body to hoof it clear with his left boot.

Former Scotland assistant boss Peter Houston on Radio Scotland: "The French look so physical, so strong, their mobility is fantastic. But we have got to get the ball forward more and make it count. The French full-backs are beyond their own midfielders at times whereas Andrew Robertson and Russell Martin are sitting back. In saying that, if you open up, they might just kill you." 

BBC Scotland reporter Alasdair Lamont in Metz: "Just in the last few minutes, Scotland have been a little more positive and look a little more comfortable. But, as Gordon Strachan has been talking about, in the early stages they looked to lack confidence when they picked up possession."

Matt Ritchie's free-kick into the French box is cleared easily by Paul Pogba and when the Scots retaliate it's Laurent Koscielny who rises to nod the ball away and clear the French lines.

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson on Radio Scotland: "The French are show-boating a little bit and enjoying themselves but we are giving the ball away far too easily.  Darren Fletcher was trying to play a five-yard pass on the edge of his own box and the French were quick to see it. The movement of the French players is absolutely killing us at the moment."

Scotland's besieged keeper David Marshall keeps out a shot from 20 yards. I'm struggling to remember a Scottish player touching the ball in the French half.

Grant Hanley throws out a leg to poke the ball...sort of clear as Scotland are pinned back around their own penalty area. France are playing with confidence and they will do well to keep the score down at this rate.

Gordon Greer gave away a cheap free-kick and then we have got to match their runners in the box and get touch-tight to them. It was a class finish from Giroud but you can't give a guy of his class that much room. It is far too easy and we have got to defend far better than that."

Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall shows no signs of dreaming of his summer holiday as he dives sharply to his right to deny Olivier Giroud.
