Before Scotland fans begin fretting too much about the opposition, let's cast our minds back to the Parc des Princes in 2007 when James McFadden's wonder strike defeated a France team containing the likes of Franck Ribery and Nicolas Anelka.

One local journalist at Friday's press conference suggested that the public in France see the Scots as a rough team. However, striker Steven Fletcher, who spent the second half of last season on loan to Marseille from Sunderland, said: "We class ourselves as a football team, we try to pass the ball and try to attack as much as we can.

"We have some good young players coming into the team who have a lot of ability so hopefully we can make it a good game."

  6. Home hopes are high for Euro 2016published at 19:38 British Summer Time 4 June 2016

    France v Scotland (20:00)

France have won the last two major competitions they have hosted - the 1998 World Cup and the 1984 European Championship.

They are the bookies' favourites to make it a hat-trick at Euro 2016 and it's not down to home advantage alone. Les Blues' squad is oozing with talent.

You wouldn't get much change out of £120m if you wanted this pair. Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba will be on every wealthy club's wish list this summer...

  7. Le Fletchpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 4 June 2016

Scotland striker Steven Fletcher should have some inside knowledge on tonight's opponents since he spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille.

The 29-year-old is out of contract now but he might not have too many suitors in France since he only scored twice during his time at the Stade Velodrome.

BBC Scotland reporter Alasdair Lamont: "Gordon Strachan very much going for experience against the Euro 2016 favourites tonight. The whole team are tried and trusted. Back in come Andy Robertson, Gordon Greer, Robert Snodgrass, Shaun Maloney and Steven Fletcher. Probably as strong a team as is available to Strachan tonight."

Now, here's a thing. Before we publish the Scotland line-up, take a moment to consider that there is not a single Scottish-based player in the starting XI.

BBC Scotland football pundit Michael Grant: "Scotland haven't suffered a really heavy defeat under Gordon Strachan. We hope that continues tonight."

  15. Our man in Metzpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 4 June 2016

BBC Scotland reporter Alasdair Lamont: "So, the final warm-up for France before the serious stuff starts on Friday against Romania. Scotland take the role of the Euro 2016 hosts' final sparring partner at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Metz. The locals have been milling around the stadium for hours already - it's a big deal for them to have Les Bleus play here. Like Scotland, this is as close as Metz will come to Euro action, with the 25,000-seater stadium not among the championship venues. So the people of this north-east city have come to give the players a rousing send-off. Gordon Strachan's team are long-shots to spoil that party."
