    Belgium 1-0 Republic of Ireland

    Kevin Kilbane
Ex-Republic of Ireland international at Stade de Bordeaux

"That was the threat in the first half, the counter attack that Belgium have.

"It's brilliant feet from Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku knows exactly what he wants to do.

"It's a brilliantly worked goal from Belgium, back to front. Real disappointment for Ireland, it comes from their own set play."

    Romelu Lukaku (48 mins)

    Belgium ahead.

It's a brilliant goal from the Red Devils and Republic of Ireland concede from their own free-kick.

They cleared to Romelu Lukaku, who played in Kevin de Bruyne, the Man City player skipped past Stephen Ward before feeding Lukaku on the edge of the box. He steadied himself before curling a delightful finish into the bottom corner.

Republic have to come out to play now.

Frank: Lukaku will remain a good player for an average team. Lazy around the pitch, no effort. Too many touches before releasing the ball - weak control.

Ross: Belgium have got good players but I don't think their current manager has the quality to put the icing on top of the Belgium bun!

  8. 'Belgium can't force the pace'published at 15:00 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Belgium 0-0 Republic of Ireland

    Mark Lawrenson
BBC football expert at Stade de Bordeaux

"You would have to argue that Belgium have had the possession, shaded it. Ireland haven't really had a chance.

"The problem for Belgium is they can't really force the pace of the game.

"They've got really good players who can play at a high tempo, but they just don't seem to be able to do so."

Joe: Watching Belgium is like watching the so called "England golden generation". Great players, poor team. Zzzzzzzzzzz

Pafcmatt: Belgium have been by far the most boring team in the tournament so far

Steven MacConmara: Ireland need to have a go, a point isn't enough here, bring McClean on, and Daryl Murphy late on

    Kevin Kilbane
Ex-Republic of Ireland international at Stade de Bordeaux

"He's very isolated at the moment, Shane Long.

"If Ireland keep it like this until half-time Martin O'Neill will stress they have got to put the Belgium back-line under pressure.

"Long is getting a little bit frustrated up front at the moment."

Kevin de Bruyne has been much more involved in this game than he was against Italy. The Manchester City man is playing more centrally against the Republic of Ireland (left graphic), compared to hugging the right wing against Italy (right graphic) and as a result he has played more successful passes into key areas.

    Cheeky.

Jeff Hendrick earns the first booking of the game and it's a comedy one as there are two balls on the pitch and he kicks the non-playing one towards the one that is legal.

Cuneyt Cakir of Turkey is the ref, by the way.

Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois might as well have brought his blanket and slippers as he has had nothing to do.

Another Belgium corner - their fourth of the half - as Ciaran Clark clears Eden Hazard's drilled cross.
