The Republic of Ireland managed a point in their opening game against Sweden, but may feel they should have had more after a solid performance.

The Swedes only managed to get on the scoresheet after Ciaran Clark bundled into his own net.

Aston Villa's Clark, Blackburn's Shane Duffy and Derby's Richard Keogh are the options for partnering John O'Shea, not exactly blessed with quality central defenders.

Big man Romelu Lukaku will be licking his lips.

So, Belgium failed to produce in their opening match, which leads us on to today's talking point?

Which countries have had a 'golden generation' but failed to produce on the big stage?

England's 2006 World Cup side featuring David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Michael Owen should have done better I feel.

    Are Belgium the new Netherlands?

There is no doubting their talent but there are too many egos to deal with in the dressing room.

And there were signs of a mutiny against boss Marc Wilmots after the Italy game as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois criticised him in a post-match interview, saying Italy had "tactically outclassed us".

And midfielder Radja Nainggolan was caught gesturing behind his coach's back after being substituted.

Both men were spoken to by Wilmots on their journey back to the northern Bordeaux training base, but all is not well in that camp.

Republic of Ireland have gone early with their team news. Stephen Ward comes in for the injured Jon Walters.

There is no Radja Nainggolan in the Belgium XI, more on him later on.

The Belgium squad have arrived at Stade de Bordeaux and midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been stopped from entering the stadium for failing to wear his pass.

Not a good start to the day.

The Republic of Ireland team coach is just pulling in now.

Just taking a look inside the Belgium dressing room. All the players have new kits (two shirts each) folded nicely in clear plastic bags on top of their seats.

Tape, bottles of water and bandages are nearly stacked on the centre table.

Meanwhile in the Republic of Ireland dressing room, it looks like they've brought over all of the country's bananas and Jaffa Cakes. Roy Keane must be hungry.

Ranked number two in the world - the highest European side at the championship - Belgium are expected to reach the latter stages of this competition.

But there was no evidence of them challenging for any silverware after being given a footballing lesson by Italy in their opening game.

Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and Marouane Fellaini all started the game against Antonio Conte's men but looked like strangers, showing no cohesion in attack and giving the Italians a rather comfortable evening.

Having said that, Liverpool striker Divock Origi did miss a couple of sitters though.

Watch out for Belgium, they said.

They've got a brilliant team packed full of talented individuals, they cried.

Marc Wilmot's side were run ragged in their opening game though.

The Republic of Ireland will fancy their chances today.
