GOAL - Belgium 3-0 Republic of Irelandpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Romelu Lukaku (70 mins)

    Game done and dusted.

I mentioned Republic of Ireland's defensive frailties before the match and it's that man Ciaran Clark who costs his side again.

The Republic lose the ball and Belgium break, as the ball is passed towards Eden Hazard on the halfway line. Clark runs cross and slides hoping he can cut the ball out, but Hazard is too clever and slips away into the opposition box.

He feeds the ball across to Romelu Lukaku, who is not going to miss from eight yards out.

Axel Witsel (6) was involved throughout the move that he finished off with aplomb.

Kevin de Bruyne wants the glory of a goal but his left-footed drive is always rising over the crossbar and he is left disgusted with himself.

The Republic won't want their goal difference to run away, it could prove crucial if they finish third in the group.

Republic full-back Seamus Coleman will have to get forward now, but his chipped cross is too easy for Thibaut Courtois.

Sub James McClean gets on the ball for the first time, but again the ball into the box is poor at straight at Courtois.

    Belgium 2-0 Republic of Ireland

Joe Wedgwood: Harsh on Ireland, 2-0 flatters a lethargic Belgium side. Ref has done Ireland no favour either. Come on Ireland!

RyanSpeaksFootball: Good goal for Witsel. Belgium look to be growing in confidence. Perhaps that's what they were lacking?

Si's Insights: Disgruntled Irishman here admits that class is telling. We have to hope for a Croatian-esque self-destruction

Romelu Lukaku scored Belgium's first goal at a Euros since Emile Mpenza scored against Sweden at Euro 2000.

It was quickly two when Axel Witsel headed in.

    Belgium 2-0 Republic of Ireland

Do Republic of Ireland have it in them to launch a comeback? They've been poor in this match so far and offered nothing in attack.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 63 mins

    Belgium 2-0 Republic of Ireland

Martin O'Neill immediately makes the change. James McCarthy comes off and on comes James McClean.

Belgium boss Marc Wilmots also makes a sub as Yannick Carrasco is brought off for Dries Mertens.

  9. 'Far too easy for Belgium'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Belgium 2-0 Republic of Ireland

    Kevin Kilbane
Ex-Republic of Ireland international at Stade de Bordeaux

"It's far too easy. Axel Witsel drifts in from the edge of the penalty area for a free header.

"Nobody tracks the run. He just runs off the back of James McCarthy - he's got to track the run or take a shout from behind to leave him.

"It's a poor goal for Ireland to concede. Darren Randolph is unlucky in the end, he got a hand to it."

  10. goal

GOAL - Belgium 2-0 Republic of Irelandpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Axel Witsel (61 mins)

    Belgium at the double.

All too easy for the Belgians as the Republic fail to track their men.

Full-back Thomas Meunier swings in an arced cross into the box and midfielder Axel Witsel ghosts in to head home.

A long way back for the Republic of Ireland now.

    Belgium 1-0 Republic of Ireland

Belgium snuff the danger out when it looked like the Republic of Ireland may pinch a goal. When the Red Devils do get hold of the ball, it is all very neat, intricate play between their players.

    An hour gone.

Republic finding pockets of space around the Belgium box, but can't find the final touch to a man through on goal. It's being intercepted by a Belgian defender each time.

Robbie Brady's shot from inside the box is blocked by Thomas Meunier, and now the boys in green are starting to get into the game. Belgium having work to do at the back.

David Ljunggren: Shocking refereeing. Ireland should have had a penalty

Big Gray: Oh dear. Some counter attack. Some finish from Lukaku

Vieira151: What happened to Ireland there? Just opened right up. Oh well. Nice finish from Lukaku

Better from Republic of Ireland, this.

Right-back Seamus Coleman gets forward for the first time in the match but his cross is blocked by a defender in black and red.

Republic then appeal for a penalty as the ball comes off Axel Witsel, but nothing doing from Cuneyt Cakir.

Jeff Hendrick swings in the cross but Jan Verthonghen stoops to head the ball away.

Belgium look dangerous on the break and the Republic will need to stay wary of that, after letting in the opener through that route already.

That was Romelu Lukaku's fifth goal in his last six games for Belgium and it was a peach.

Meanwhile, Glenn Whelan tries a long-ranger but his shot skips away for a corner.
