    Portugal v Austria (20:00 BST)

No one’s going through tonight, but if Austria were to lose they'd be out of contention for the top two spots. Victory for Portugal guarantees at least third.

Remember, there be spots in the knockout round for the four best third-placed teams.

Always time for some regulation chat.

And we've had a few emails into our inbox about players passing the ball backwards from kick-off. It is all legit. Before the start of the tournament it was one of 95 changes made.

We expect so much of him and Portugal's hopes lie with him. It was a frustrating night for him, and in his head it is all about him. He has to perform, and I would not be surprised if he joins the party tonight.

The Francesinha: aka Little Frenchie, is said to be a Portuguese take on that old French classic the croque monsiuer.

It's very popular in Portugal's second city of Porto, but I dare say there'll be a few made in Paris tonight too.

The French capital has a huge Portuguese population - recent estimates put it at about 250,000. That's actually more than Porto itself...

We all know how good Ronaldo can be when you feed him, but they couldn't find him the other day. They struggled when confronted with a direct game.

Nothing is easy on the world stage, and a lot of goals are scored late on. Why is that? Teams can defend well, but a lot are defending too deep so they allow the other team to pile on the pressure and score at the other end.

The metro heading towards Parc des Princes was on the busy side, with Austria definitely claiming a hands-down victory on the vocal front.

There was a familiar rhythm to some of the songs, even if the words were very different to what one might hear in a British ground.

With both teams looking to improve on shoddy opening-match performances, nobody could really be blamed for making the most of things pre-match.

After all, it could be a case of commiserations afterwards.

Cristiano Ronaldo's obviously frustrated, but there was a platform for him there. If he feels they were below him, he should have gone and destroyed them.

  10. Alaba the key?published at 19:37 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Portugal v Austria (20:00 BST)

Just like Cristiano, faces were pretty glum around the Austria camp after their opening game.

David Alaba and co had been widely tipped as  "dark horses" (let's say this once and never again) for these Euros, but they were pretty poor in losing 2-0 to Hungary.

Centre-back Aleksandar Dragovic was sent off, but they'd already gone 1-0 down and Bayern Munich defender/midfielder/playmaker Alaba, 23, didn't shine as bright as we thought he would.

What about today, up closer to striker Marcel Sabitzer?

Two changes for Portugal as they look to improve on their showing against Iceland, with William Carvalho and Ricardo Quaresma in for Danilo, who had been an injury doubt with a back problem, and Joao Mario.

Enforced changes for Austria, with Watford's Sebastian Prodl replacing the suspended Aleksandar Dragovic in defence while the absence of injured playmaker Zlatko Junuzovic has forced a rethink in midfield.

Key man David Alaba plays further forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Stefan Ilsanker coming into a deep midfield position alongside Julian Baumgartlinger.

The third Austrian change sees Marc Janko drop out and Marcel Sabitzer starts up front.

  14. Cristiano: Saviour of humanity?published at 19:29

Cristiano's agent's having none of it though. Here's Jorge Mendes with his two cents worth, quoted in the Guardian., external

“Cristiano is the best example for our society and youth. Not only is he known for his footballing quality but also in terms of humanity.

"He's an example of determination and ambition on and off the field. Cristiano is the best athlete in the world and of all time.

"And if there were a prize to distinguish the best person, he would also win it because he’s a great father and friend.”

  15. 'It just makes it sweeter'published at 19:25 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Portugal v Austria (20:00 BST)

Naturally that didn't go down too well. "We are a small island in the Atlantic Ocean and we got a draw against them. It just makes it sweeter that he is a bad loser," said Iceland midfielder Kari Arnason.

"He's a fantastic footballer, but he's not a gracious human being. His comments are the reason why Messi is always going to be one step ahead of him."

  16. 'A small mentality'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Portugal v Austria (20:00 BST)

Big Ronny didn't fancy swapping his shirt with anyone from the Iceland camp in midweek, and he wasn't exactly gracious with his words after what probably felt like a defeat. Anything to do with that air-shot in front of goal?

He said the Icelanders, the smallest nation ever to reach a major tournament, were "lucky" in battling to what was actually a brilliant 1-1 draw.

"I thought they'd won the Euros the way they celebrated at the end. It was unbelievable," he said. "We tried hard to win and Iceland didn't try anything. This, in my opinion, shows a small mentality and they are not going to do anything in the competition."

Just for a change then, tonight all eyes are on Cristiano Ronaldo.

By 20:01 BST he'll have become the most capped Portugal player of all time, surpassing Luis Figo's 127 international appearances in his 128th game for A Seleccao.

And he'll be hoping it's a happier occasion than Tuesday evening...
