    Middlesbrough 1-1 Stoke

Middlesbrough got off to a decent start on their Premier League return as Alvaro Negredo - on loan from Valencia - put them ahead on his debut against Stoke.

However the Potters rescued a draw when Xherdan Shaqiri's free-kick went in off the post.

"We played an amazing game," concluded Boro boss Aitor Karanka after his Premier League debut as a manager.

"Three months ago we were in the Championship and played today against a team that has finished ninth in the Premier League in the last three seasons."

    Crystal Palace 0-1 West Brom

West Brom boss Tony Pulis worries his side have "stagnated" and has urged them to capitalise on their takeover.

A Chinese group led by investor Guochuan Lai have agreed a deal with former chairman Jeremy Peace to buy the club.

"The club have a lot of players who have been here for a long time. They need competition,

"I've been here now 22 months. It's been one of the things I've said - the club has almost stagnated, and it really needs to get on its front foot.

"It's the only club in the West Midlands this year that's in the Premier League. The supporters and everybody around the place, we need a little bit of impetus."

A saga that has been rumbling on for over a year now is Saido Berahino's future at West Brom.

Last summer Spurs wanted the 23-year-old and Stoke are reported to be interested in him now.

"He won't be leaving unless we bring someone in," said Tony Pulis after beating his former side Crystal Palace.

"It is more important that we stay in the Premier League and Saido's goals will help us do that. We're hoping and praying we can keep him."

  11. Bolasie and Kone to Everton?published at 11:36 British Summer Time 14 August 2016

Everton are in talks to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Yannick Bolasie and Sunderland defender Lamine Kone, BBC Sport has learned.

Black Cats boss David Moyes said yesterday that the club are going to offer Kone a new contract.

But Palace manager Alan Pardew told BBC Sport that he expects Bolasie to go.

"We know there is a big offer and a big club in for him," he said.

"The deal is close and he will go with my best wishes. There's no medical done or agreement 100% done.

"It's fair to say we know his heart and soul may be elsewhere."

    Everton 1-1 Spurs

Both managers revealed they are hopeful of bringing in some new players.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino: "We may get one or two. We are very open, it is not easy to bring in players who can help us but we are trying."

Everton boss Ronald Koeman: "I was focused on today's match but we are waiting for two or three new players and the board are working hard to bring them in. I don't talk about names. I hope we can sign two players next week."

Koeman might not be naming any names, but we know who his targets are...

    Everton 1-1 Spurs

One game which saw two sides who will fancy their chances this season go head to head was Everton v Tottenham.

The Toffees, under new manager Ronald Koeman, were excellent in the first half and deservedly led through Ross Barkley.

But last season's title challengers Tottenham improved after bringing on summer signing Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela scored a headed equaliser.

Manchester United have bought big - and they've bought impressively - this summer.

So we want to know who you think the signing of the summer is. Will Paul Pogba help United win their first title without Alex Ferguson as manager since 1967?

Or is it Bristol City's loan man from Chelsea, Tammy Abraham, who has scored four goals in three games? Or how about Oxford signing the Scottish Premiership's second top scorer Kane Hemmings?

My point is this is open to everyone, not just Premier League fans.

  15. Phelan staying in charge until takeover completedpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 14 August 2016

    Hull 2-1 Leicester

Hull caretaker boss Mike Phelan revealed after the game that he will stay in charge until the ownership of the club is resolved.

Steve Bruce left his role as manager on 22 July - a breakdown in his relationship with vice-chairman Ehab Allam contributing to his departure.

Tigers fans protested before the game, calling for owner Assam Allam to sell the club.

"All I'm aware of is that a takeover is happening," Phelan said. "It's not a finalised deal yet. I'm in charge up to that point - I agreed to that.

"There's a week to the next game [against Swansea next Saturday] and a lot will happen in that time I'm sure."

"N'Golo Kante has been sold so Andy King was playing in front of their defence, but he did not look like he has the energy to play there.

"King likes to get forward - dropping off and getting the ball like Kante did is not his strength."

  17. Hull score first Premier League 'tandem kick'published at 11:01 British Summer Time 14 August 2016

    Hull 2-1 Leicester

The first game of the Premier League season was no less dramatic.

Champions Leicester began against a managerless promoted side who struggled to field a full matchday squad.

But Hull stunned the Foxes with a 2-1 victory.

Their opener was a bizarre goal where Adama Diomande and Abel Hernandez combined acrobatically - a tandem kick as a Hull-supporting colleague called it - with Diomande awarded the goal.

Riyad Mahrez replied from the penalty spot but Robert Snodgrass scored the winner with a well-hit strike.

  18. Moyes has a McNair on his debutpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 14 August 2016

    Man City 2-1 Sunderland

Manchester City went on to win 2-1 against Sunderland, with David Moyes paying for a defensive substitution in his first game as Black Cats boss.

City had led through an early Sergio Aguero penalty, but Jermain Defoe levelled for Sunderland after 71 minutes.

Moyes brought striker Defoe off for recent defensive signing Paddy McNair after 83 minutes and four minutes later the Northern Irish debutant scored the own goal that decided the game.

  20. Guardiola's first tactical tweakpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 14 August 2016

    Man City 2-1 Sunderland

For all the talk of new summer signings, it was an old boy left out of a team which caused the most headlines.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola dropped England number one Joe Hart for Willy Caballero.

The Catalan is said to prefer a 'sweeper keeper', with Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Portugal's Rui Patrício strongly linked to the Etihad.

Guardiola said that Hart "reacted well" to the decision to drop him.

"I have a lot of respect for Joe. I know how good a goalkeeper he is, but I decided for Willy."
