  1. 'Could Spurs start slowly again?'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

Spurs v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Guy Mowbray
    MOTD commentator

The start of a new season - and we're all full of the joys of summer, right? Well, not everyone.

He may have a point, but Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has grumbled about his international-heavy squad needing more of a break, with nine of his starting line-up at Everton having played at the Euros or Copa America.

Perhaps last year's slow-ish start to the campaign is about to be replicated?

Given Palace's results in 2016 so far, Alan Pardew can be excused for not having a perma-grin - especially after losing two more players since losing to West Brom.

Christian Benteke's arrival will help on the smile front - but not as much as the possibility of playing Spurs early enough to catch them cold.

With wind and rain forecast, it could be a rusty afternoon all round.

  3. 'They are not machines'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

Spurs v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is not happy with the five-week turnaround between the end of Euro 2016 and start of the Premier League.

The English top flight kicked off a week before La Liga and Serie A, and two weeks before the Bundesliga.

"You cannot play the Euros and start [the Premier League] on 13 August. How can you give rest to the players after the whole season?" asked Pochettino rhetorically.

"If you give rest in training and say, 'I don't want to use this player that was involved in the Euros' and you have no positive results - the media, the supporters, the board and the president kill me.

"You are in competition for 11 and a half months and the players, because you pay them good salaries, don't deserve the holidays? Come on. And the families? The sons? The kids? They are not machines."

Crystal Palace start life with Christian Benteke without Christian Benteke. The Belgian signed too late to feature in today's game.

Alan Pardew makes one change to the team beaten 1-0 by West Brom last week with Joe Ledley replacing the departed Mile Jedinak.

West Brom v Everton (15:00 BST)

Tony Pulis has stuck with the same West Brom side who started last Saturday's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace, which means that Saido Berahino continues in attack alongside Salomon Rondon, and centre-half Jonny Evans continues to fill in at left-back.

West Brom XI: Foster; Dawson, McAuley, Olsson, Evans; Phillips, Fletcher, Yacob, Gardner; Rondon, Berahino.

Everton are also unchanged, meaning that they should stick with the 3-4-2-1 line-up that Ronald Koeman deployed for last week's 1-1 draw against Tottenham. Romelu Lukaku, who returned to training on Tuesday following a heel problem, is on the bench with new signings Yannick Bolasie and Ashley Williams.

Everton XI: Stekelenburg; Holgate, Jagielka, Funes Mori; McCarthy, Gueye, Barry, Baines; Mirallas, Barkley; Deulofeu.

    Burnley v Liverpool (15:00 BST)

Burnley give a debut to new £8m midfielder Steven Defour, who joined for a club record fee in midweek. The Belgian replaces David Jones, who has joined Sheffield Wednesday, but otherwise the Clarets are unchanged from the side that lost to Swansea last week.

Burnley XI: Heaton, Lowton, Keane, Mee, Ward, Arfield, Defour, Marney, Boyd, Gray, Vokes

The headline news from Jurgen Klopp's team selection is that Alberto Moreno, heavily criticised by some Liverpool fans after his display in last week's win over Arsenal, has been dropped to the bench. James Milner comes in. The only other change sees Daniel Sturridge replace Sadio Mane, who suffered a shoulder injury in training.

Liverpool XI: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho, Sturridge

Swansea City head coach Francesco Guidolin makes one change from the 1-0 win at Burnley on the opening weekend, with midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson - reintroduced to the team gradually after starring for Iceland at Euro 2016 - replacing the injured Leon Britton.

Swansea XI: Fabianski, Naughton, Fernandez, Amat, Kingsley, Cork, Fer; Barrow, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Llorente

Hull name the same starting 11 that beat champions Leicester on the opening day. Not that they have many other options.

Christian Benteke won't be playing for Burnley either, despite his Twitter bio briefly suggesting he had signed for them.

Soon after his move to Palace was completed, his page read 'Burnleyl FC and Belgium national team.' It now reads 'CPFC & Belgium national team.'

  13. 'The Man Utd of old are back'published at 13:50 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Man Utd 2-0 Southampton

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Football Focus

Under Louis van Gaal, the football was boring to watch. Now it is the Manchester United of old and it is almost overnight.

What has impressed me most is the goals Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored with his head, he is very powerful and a machine when winning trophies and scoring goals. It has raised the bar at the club and it is good for the youngsters too.

People would look at Patrick Vieira in the tunnel and say, 'how big is he?' United also have Marouane Fellaini and he is pulling the strings for them now.

  14. 'Man Utd look really strong'published at 13:45 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Man Utd 2-0 Southampton

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Republic of Ireland defender on Football Focus

Anyone who watched Paul Pogba play for Juventus last year will have seen he was sensational.

Forget what happened with France at the Euros, because he was in a slightly different role.

Manchester United need big stars like him. They've made a really good start, albeit against two teams I think will be in the bottom half of the league. Through the spine of the team, Manchester United look really strong.

  15. Ibrahimovic and Pogba shine as Man Utd winpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Man Utd 2-0 Southampton

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made it three goals in two Premier League games (and four in three, including the Community Shield) with both strikes in last night's 2-0 win over Southampton.

However a lot of talk after the game was about £89m Paul Pogba, who made his first start for the club.

He had more passes (71), touches (103), shots (4) and won more duels (20) than any other United player.

Pogba, whose last game was France's Euro 2016 final defeat by Portugal, ran 11.2km, the third most of any player.

Boss Jose Mourinho said he was "fantastic" and Pogba himself said: "It's a great feeling. I was relaxed, didn't have nerves and played my game. I came here to win, that is what I always wanted. It's a top club."
