Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho: "Marcus Rashford has a lot of chances waiting for him. When the team was chasing the ball against Leicester in the Community Shield and tonight, he made a difference for us. 

"He gives new problems to the opposition so I am really happy with him and the team. Even defensively, we controlled their counter attack.

"We want to be champions, we don't want to start well, we want to finish well."

Hull caretaker boss Mike Phelan on conceding in 'Fergie time': "Normally we would get six minutes but we only got four today!

"The Hull players are good players, and good people. They are determined and earned the right to be at this level. They worked hard for 12 months to be here. We have six points from nine and that is what dreams are made of with 13 players are fit.

"I am not going to complain or find fault with the players. We have been trying extremely hard to get players in and now have a small window. We have two or three in the pipeline but they are not done."

Phelan was Sir Alex Ferguson's former assistant at Manchester United.

Hull caretaker boss Mike Phelan: "It is disappointing for the players, they have put a serious amount of work in to get to a point where they think they have a result.

"You are playing quality sides who bring quality off the bench, but I am proud of the players. They have put hard work in today without getting anything out of it.

"In the first half we were competitive and looked solid, we had a great chance before United scored. You have to be proud of the desire they showed."

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw: "To be honest I didn't think it was going to be our day but we didn't stop and luckily Marcus Rashford was in the right position at the right time.

"In the last three games we haven't played our best, we are still gelling and improving. The signs are really positive. 

"Last season the defence was very strong and we are building on that. We have a great partnership going, it is a strong team."

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford: "Amazing. First away game for me this season and happy to get the three points and goal. 

"The fans came onto the pitch to celebrate and that is part of football.

"I am getting on in training and waiting for moments like this.

That is one of Hull's better performances because Man United are in a different league to the other teams they have played.

There were some outstanding performances out there. Livermore and Davies were outstanding from start to finish. It is cruel for them.

Hull executed their plan to perfection until the 93rd minute.  

The Hull fans slope off into the wind and rain with glum faces. That walk back to the car is going to feel a bit longer tonight.

Rooney got to the byline and did ever so well. He put it along the danger area and Rashford was in the right place at the right time.

That is what you say potential champions are all about.

A herculean effort from Hull's defence, and Curtis Davies in particular, but Manchester United maintain their 100% winning start with the three points. Rashford beams a huge grin as he salutes the travelling United fans.
