The penalty was awarded for a foul by Jose Fonte on Olivier Giroud but there will be a delay before the penalty can be taken because Laurent Koscielny is down and getting treatment in the Saints box.

Time running out for Arsenal. They do have a corner, though.

Arsenal could have been affected by the international break. They haven't found anything close to the tempo they had before the break.

If you are going to win the league you need to take three points from matches like this, when you haven't played well. Can the Gunners nick a late winner?

Pierre Hojberg goes into the referee's book for dissent, and Arsenal come forward again. Saints remain very well organised, though, and, as discussed, this is far from one-way traffic.

Chance at the other end too. Santi Cazorla's cross is headed into the side-netting by Olivier Giroud.

Arsenal are desperate for a second goal but Saints could still win this you know. Petr Cech pushes away Pierre Hojberg's shot but Shane Long is there for the rebound... his shot is goalbound, but Cech gets up to hack it away - not enough power on it.

The standard of Arsenal today has been so far below what the fans expect...

Saints make their final switch. Dusan Tadic is off, James Ward-Prowse is off.

Arsenal are throwing more and more men forward. Nacho Monreal sees his shot deflected wide by a desperate Jose Fonte block.

Shane Long heads a free-kick over the Arsenal bar and Arsene Wenger's response is to throw on another striker. Alex Iwobi is on for Theo Walcott.

I take that back. This game is getting bogged down. Arsenal cannot find any rhythm, Saints keep breaking up play at every opportunity.

This game is opening up. Alexis Sanchez finds space on the edge of the Saints box and lets fly with a rising shot that is not far over the bar.

Those Arsenal changes have not had the desired effect yet. Saints have been pinned back for most of the second half but they should be back in front.

Dusan Tadic releases Shane Long inside the area with a lovely flick, but Long clips his shot a long way wide with only Petr Cech to beat.

Southampton's turn to make a substitution. Pierre Hojberg is on for Jordy Clasie.

This will shake it up. Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez are both coming on for Arsenal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and new-boy Lucas Perez are coming off.

Just before that switch, Hector Bellerin blasted inches wide with a skidding shot from the right-hand side of the box - that was Arsenal's best effort of the second half.
