I know this is going to sound strange but I am not surprised that ball hit the back of the net!

I did warn you he can hit them like that!

    Leigh Griffiths

    Pick that one out!

A goal to take the roof off Hampden Park as Leigh Griffiths pings the free-kick into the back of the net!

Was Joe Hart in the right position? If you're being ultra critical - and everyone will be - the shot didn't go right in the corner. It was good enough to beat Hart though.

I am not convinced he actually knew what he was doing there.

He had no idea Fraser was there but it looked terrible.

Gary Cahill doesn't see Ryan Fraser at all as he tries to sort our a long, bouncing ball and hen ends up volleying Fraser in the chest! Poor challenge. Free-kick in a decent spot for Scotland.

    Scotland 0-1 England

England bring on Raheem Sterling for Dele Alli, who looked well short of his Tottenham self. Not the first creative player to struggle to recreate his club form for country of course.

On his way off he stops for a word with Scott Brown, who fouled him twice and could have been off...

England's women are home and hosed in their friendly with Switzerland as Jodie Taylor clips in a low effort from the edge of the area after 50 minutes.

    Scotland 0-1 England

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Hampden Park

Scotland's fans very subdued - it is England fans' voices that can be heard. There seems to be an acceptance that Scotland will struggle to get back into this. Air of resignation.

    Scotland 0-1 England

There could be more space for England now as Scotland commit men forwards. Adam Lallana leads a three-on-three break but he doesn't really know what to do with it and rather wastes it, shooting tamely at Craig Gordon. Who saves this time.

Leigh Griffiths then scoops an effort well wide at the other end.

If they don't get a goal back, this campaign is pretty much over for Scotland and possibly for Gordon Strachan.

But you have to ask, could they give any more?

If the answer is 'no', then who CAN get more out of them?

Half the team are struggling with cramp!

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 80 mins

    Scotland 0-1 England

Paul Scholes was the last man to score for England at Hampden before this afternoon by the way. I was on a GCSE revision day that day I remember. Furious about the clash.

Scotland send on Chris Martin for Ikechi Anya. His nation needs him to find a goal from somewhere.

    John O'Neill

Northern Ireland are definitely getting tired and Azerbaijan are on the front foot and look the team more likely to win. I think Northern Ireland would settle for 0-0 now.

Not far away at all, Leigh Griffiths clips a curling shot wide from 22 yards which had Joe Hart in trouble. Scotland are going to bring on the Championship Diego Costa - Chris Martin.

That was a great chance for Adam Lallana - it looked like he didn't shout to Alli because he had more time than he committed to that header.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been excellent since he came on by the way.

  15. CLOSE!published at 77 mins

    Scotland 0-1 England

Chance! Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is having one of those cameos which makes you think that he should be a regular for club and country. He skins his man on the right and puts in a fine cross, Adam Lallana is free and meets it with a powerful header. Over!

Should have hit the target at the very least.

Oh dear there are three Scotland players getting treatment for cramp here now...

Scott Brown should have been shown a second yellow card there, he's a very lucky man. Gareth Southgate could not believe it. He even waved the imaginary card, which of course 'nobody likes to see.'

  18. Postpublished at 72 mins

Is that game over? Or can Scotland rouse themselves to cause England enough troubles at the back? A reminder that England are yet to concede a goal in the group at all.

Scott Brown takes out Dele Alli, that's a booking all day long! Is he going off? No!
