GOAL - Scotland 0-1 Englandpublished at 71 mins

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Keeper! He's got to be saving that! England lead through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who always seems to do the business as a substitute for England.

He takes the ball from a throw, beats Scott Brown and cuts inside on to his left foot. He hits the ball hard, through some legs, but it's straight at Craig Gordon and all he can do is push it into the net.

If you're reading this live text commentary it probably means that you have made other plans and are not watching the game.

I have to say you've made the right decision. I've seen worse England internationals. But not too many.

Craig Gordon is hurried into a scuffed clearance but it runs away for a throw.

Northern Ireland fall asleep from their own corner and Azerbaijan break, with the ball dropping to Richard Almeida on the edge of the area, but his sliced half-volley spins high and wide.

Kieran 🃏: Into the pub after work to catch the 2nd half of what I was expecting to be a competitive match. At least the beer's cold.

  5. CLOSE!published at 67 mins

    Scotland 0-0 England

Maybe the best chance of the game, certainly of the second half for England. Ryan Bertrand goes back to basics with an early cross from right back, and it works too, Harry Kane is able to twist and meet it with a powerful header which is straight at Craig Gordon.

I would have taken one of the midfield players off - there is no need for all of them in there.

For me Sterling would have been ideal.

Marcus Rashford is the man who comes off, Gareth Southgate could have replaced pretty much any of them to be honest. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will come on.

Scotland hand a debut to Bournemouth flyer Ryan Fraser. He's on for Robert Snodgrass.

Andy Rudd: How much do #spurs want for Walker? He has been bobbins.

Paul Collins: Kyle walker isn't worth £40 mill. City are stupid if they pay it. £15/£20 mill at best.

Eric Dier has to be careful. He has his pocket picked by Leigh Griffifths and responds by bringing the striker down. Nothing nasty or malicious but the sort of foul that can see you booked.

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is coming on.

I think Scotland fans feel as though something is about to happen...

There has been a little less fear in Scotland's movement in the last five minutes.

  11. CLOSE!published at 65 mins

    Azerbaijan 0-0 Northern Ireland

A scare for Northern Ireland as Afran Ismayilov makes space in the area and pulls a great, low save from Michael McGovern.

It's a bright spot in an otherwise stodgy game.

Scotland have raised the tempo again and the crowd respond. It's a wonderful atmosphere in Hampden once more. A tackle is cheered like a goal.

Ikechi Anya puts in a dangerous cross which Kyle Walker makes a mess of - but he gets away with it.

Scotland at least trying to construct some moves and Hampden Park responds with a swirl of sound.

Still a nervousness around here about whether Scotland's defence can keep England out but encouragement for Gordon Strachan's side.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 60 mins

    Scotland 0-0 England

Scotland are countering with purpose now. Eric Dier lunges in recklessly, and is booked, and Scotland move it well with Stuart Armstrong eventually firing over.

Dier got the ball actually. He will miss the next game.

It's that tentativeness that could cost Scotland...

    Scotland 0-0 England

Heads in hands on the bench - Scotland waste their best chance for 50 minutes. Leigh Griffiths does really well as the lone striker to first hold the ball up and then craft a pass along the 18-yard box to Andrew Robertson. He can just run on and hit it but takes a touch and then slices his shot horribly wide. A poor effort. He's better than that.

Scotland are quite happy to have slowed the game down. They are defending in numbers.

The England players have come right off the pace now though.

    Azerbaijan 0-0 Northern Ireland

Almost five minutes ahead in Baku, and NI continue to look the better side but just can't find that final ball. Josh Magennis is almost on the end of a cross.

  20. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 53 mins

    Scotland 0-0 England

Adam Lallana is miles clear of every other player on the pitch at the moment. He starts a wonderful piece of play on the left which sends Dele Alli into space, not for the first time though he doesn't play the ball well enough on to Marcus Rashford and the chance has gone.

Scotland then have a half-hearted penalty appeal waved away as Kyle Walker makes a clumsy tackle.
