    Scotland 0-0 England

Scotland still pressing England very high up the pitch, and they force an error as Joe Hart kicks it out of touch. Pep Guardiola smiles somewhere.

Gordon Strachan will be pleased with this start. His side have been right at it.

England are having the lion's share of the possession for far, and should be ahead but for Harry Kane's missed kick from a couple of yards out.

Scotland, predictably, flew at England but there is now a measure of order about the game and manager Gareth Southgate has come into his technical area, applauding a decent period of possession.

Gordon Strachan is also out there and has been involved in some animated chat with midfield man Robert Snodgrass.

I've just seen that Harry Kane chance again - and it was a big one.

He was caught out by Adam Lallana managing to scoop in a cross when it didn't look possible - he was on his heels and couldn't turn it home from close range.

For people who get angry about this sort of thing by the way, Marcus Rashford is taking corners for England.

That's the day over for Gareth McAuley. He's had to come off so Niall McGinn comes on. Presumably a change of shape then.

  6. CLOSE!published at 21 mins

    Scotland 0-0 England

Definitely slower pace now as England get more and more possession. Jake Livermore is the fulcrum now, seeing plenty of ball from deep.

And that's a chance! England work it patiently, Adam Lallana bursts into the area on the left and puts it across goal, but Harry Kane can't turn it in!

They have just come off the pace here. It's a warm day and they aren't working at the tempo they started with now.

  8. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    Azerbaijan 0-0 Northern Ireland

    Chance!

He should be scoring that, as Azerbaijan send in Ramil Sheydaev over the top. He leaves Gareth McAuley trailing in his wake, clean through but he can only fire well over the bar.

McAuley has pulled up lame after that too.

We talk about how many Celtic players there are on the field but there are also four Spurs players there and you can tell they are looking for each other.

I think Northern Ireland are playing well, being patient and keeping it tight at the back. If they keep it at 0-0, the longer the game goes on the more I fancy Northern Ireland to win

  11. CLOSE!published at 17 mins

    Scotland 0-0 England

Chance! Eric Dier picks out a peach of a ball over the Scotland defence, Harry Kane does the first part really well, bringing the ball down from an awkward height and past Kieran Tierney in one movement.

It sits up on his left foot, 12 yards out, but he's closed down and can only strike a shot well over the bar. A chance, but good play.

Scotland are by far the better side at the moment.

I would already be looking to bring Raheem Sterling on because no one is putting their foot on the ball in the middle of the park.

The tempo has just dropped a touch, nobody has been fouled for a minute or two. The calmer the seas, the more you'd fancy England.

The hosts go close - well, sort of. Dimitrij Nazarov jinks away from a tackle before shooting from at least 30+ yards, it's well over though.

Stuart Dallas then feeds a good ball across but he can't find a team-mate.

The "A 1" problem Scotland have got is that they don't have enough bodies in the box.

  17. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Scotland 0-0 England

England are rattled at the back. Gary Cahill and Chris Smalling get in each others' way at a corner and they are lucky not to leave someone free at the far post. Cahill then joins Smalling in shanking a clearance out of touch. Gareth Southgate calls for calm.

Scotland are moving the ball quickly and using the wingers down the left hand side.

Marcus Rashford has obviously been told to stay high up the pitch because he keeps letting them run down that wing.

Scotland are by far the better side so far. This is a derby game and England have got to improve.

Nervous from Chris Smalling as he slices a clearance over his own crossbar. It's full marks for tempo and effort for Scotland so far. They pepper the England box with three crosses but the men in red just about get it away each time.

  20. Brown shows lack of disciplinepublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 10 June 2017

    Scotland 0-0 England

    Phil McNulty

It's all very well Scotland captain Scott Brown getting the crowd all whipped up by flying into challenges - but it was sheer stupidity to get himself booked inside three minutes.

Must now be careful for 87 minutes and Dele Alli, who he was clearly trying to test out, will know it.
