It's a smallish attendance at Wembley. Think League One play-off final.

I say smallish, because it will still be one of the largest in Europe tonight.

Northern Ireland v Germany (19:45 BST)

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill on Sky Sports: "There are a number of areas we can get at and the game is there to be won, we have to go out and do that.

"If we want to win the game, it will not be high scoring. We are under no illusions how difficult this is but we are in a great position in the group. Anything from this will be a bonus.

"We will play with a three/five at the back, depending on possession. We want to try and create more it the final third. Germany will put pressure on us but they picked a team with a tough game in mind."

Fred Bryer: The line up looks good apart from Ox and Hart. Butland should be No.1.

Richard Irvine: I am going for a 2-1 Northern Ireland win and Harry Kane to score a hat-trick.

Joe Ward: Harry Kane, though it pains me to say it, is the only top class player we have.

Philip Dainty: I like the look of England's front four. Pace to burn. Goals as well.

A good question Gary. Is a lack of interest a sign that qualifying for major finals has become so routine for England fans?

There does feel to be an air of apathy around international football for England fans. It will be different once the finals roll around I'm sure.

Anything but apathy when it comes to the fans of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales mind.

Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are to make a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup.

The three countries' presidents announced the plan in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, although the bidding process will not begin for several more years.

The 2030 World Cup will mark the centenary of the tournament, which first was held in Uruguay in 1930.

In June, Uefa said it would "strongly support" either a pan-British or an English bid to host in 2030.

    Chris Waddle

I think England are short in certain areas. We don't have anyone who can play those passes from midfield. There are players in midfield who can break it up but just pass it square.

There are questions about the defence, and also about the goalkeeper to an extent. We have a lot of things good going forward but what about defence and midfield?

Matt Harding: What a totally uninspiring England team.

Matt Day: How can you not start for your club and get a start for your country? We're (England) merely taking part next summer.

Gavin: Got a strange feeling Scotland will get a win with ease this evening especially if they play to the standard they played against England.

Andrew: There is genuine belief inside Windsor Park tonight, and there has been for the past three and a half years. It’s still a novelty!

Northern Ireland v Germany (19:45 BST)

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
    BBC Radio 5 live

BBC Ulster's Joel Taggart has just given me a couple of statistical nuggets that us commentators love.

Apparently tonight's referee, the Dutchman Danny Makkelie, was in charge the last time Northern Ireland lost a competitive international at home in September 2013 when Portugal beat them 4-2 with a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick. Chris Brunt and Kyle Lafferty were both sent off in that game so not the best omen that one.

On a slightly more positive note though Joel tells me the only four major tournaments that Northern Ireland have qualified for are the same four tournaments that the Netherlands have missed, including last year's Euros, and the Dutch are once again struggling to qualify for this one.

All of it course means absolutely nothing.

Wembley is largely deserted as England's players come out to warm up - but a crowd in excess of 60,000 is expected in the hope of seeing Gareth Southgate's side get the win they need to take them to next summer's World Cup in Russia.

Big night for John Stones as he gets the chance to re-establish himself at the heart of England's defence with Phil Jones injured.

And how will Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fare? He has struggled since making a £35m move from Arsenal to Liverpool but Southgate clearly has faith that he can shake off his disappointing form.
