Celtic have taken the sting out of the game somewhat and stemmed the Astana tide. Patrick Roberts is beating the first man every time but finds his options limited in terms of team-mates to pass to.

"Celtic have switched to a 4-3-3 with the introduction of Nir Bitton, with Mikael Lustig and Kieran Tierney now operating at fullback and Efe Ambrose and Eoghan O'Connell the central pair. Bitton is flanked by Scott Brown and Callum McGregor with Patrick Roberts and Stuart Armstrong on the wings and Leigh Griffiths through the middle. Brendan Rodgers will hope that can stem the tide of attacks from Astana somewhat and help his side create more."

An Astana free-kick is clipped to the back post, headed across the face of goal but Efe Ambrose is on hand to make a crucial clearance. Celtic deal with the subsequent corner.

Junior Kabananga has been a livewire for Astana today, but his effort from 25 yards is wild, ending up nearer to the corner flag than Craig Gordon's goal.

Moussa Dembele makes way for Nir Bitton. Brendan Rodgers hoping that the Israeli midfielder can get on the ball and bring some composure to Celtic's play.

Efe Ambrose almost silenced his critics with an invaluable away goal, but his header from a Callum McGregor corner is deflected wide. The second corner amounts to nothing.

The Scottish champions are dicing with death here. Junior Kabananga breaks free down the left for the umpteenth time today and fires a low cross towards Dmitri Shomko but he cannot divert his sliding effort on target.

Abzal Beisebekov is giving Kieran Tierney a bit of a roasting. He skips away from the young full-back once again and squares it for Azat Nurgaliev who sees his shot from the edge of the box bounce off the top of the crossbar. 

Celtic's recent European record does not inspire confidence of a comeback. They have won just five of their last 18 European matches.

Efe Ambrose concedes a free-kick but the cross is fired way over the crossbar.

What is Stuart Armstrong doing? A dreadful pass straight to Patrick Twumasi and the Ghanian pulls the trigger from easily 30 yards out. Craig Gordon can only spill the swerving drive but the ball is cleared to safety.

Another warning shot for Celtic, as if they needed one.

No changes for either side at the break as Brendan Rodgers sticks with the side he named to start the match. 

Kieran Tierney looks to get things going for Celtic with a strike from 25 yards on the left of the penalty area but he slices it well wide.

Celtic get the second-half underway.

"Not a disastrous scoreline for Celtic at the interval but they have fallen out of the game since going behind, while the home side have looked stronger and more confident. If not for Craig Gordon, the Kazakhs would be at least another goal ahead. If Celtic can finish the game with the scoreline as it is, that would be a decent result on the balance of play so far."
