  1. 'Aberdeen are capable of winning the tie'published at 19:38 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Aberdeen v Maribor (KO 19:45)

“It’s set-up for a wonderful occasion. The anticipation, the fact that it is a step up in class. You’re looking at what is in prospect, a fabulous game of football. I think Aberdeen are more than capable of doing well in this tie, I think they’re capable of getting through. It will be very tough for them, but if they play to their full potential then I think the opportunity is there for them to take a huge step forward.”

So Derek McInnes goes with two up front in the shape of Adam Rooney and Jayden Stockley in what looks like a fairly attacking line-up. With Niall McGinn and Johnny Hayes also in the starting eleven the Dons do have goal threats dotted around the pitch. Can they bang in one or two tonight to give themselves a lead to take over to Slovenia for the second leg?

  6. Maribor - slayer of Scottish clubspublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Aberdeen v Maribor (KO 19:45)

The Slovenian outfit are chasing a fourth victory over Scottish sides in European competition in the past six years.

On their last visit to Scotland two years ago Maribor dumped Celtic out of Champions League qualifying with a 1-0 second leg victory at Celtic Park.

In 2011 Rangers' hopes of a place in the Europa League were ended after a 2-1 defeat in Slovenia was followed by a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.

The previous season Maribor had put paid to Hibernian's hopes of making it into the Europa League proper, hammering the Easter Road side 6-2 on aggregate.

Can Aberdeen put an end to the sequence, or will Maribor's purple patch against Scottish clubs continue?

  7. Dons face their toughest test so farpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Aberdeen v Maribor (KO 19:45)

Good evening. Aberdeen are the last Scottish club standing in Europa League qualifying after defeats for Hearts and Hibernian in the last round.

The Dons made it through to the third qualifying round by comfortably dispatching Ventspils of Latvia 4-0 on aggregate.

Tonight's opposition represent a step up in quality though, with Maribor able to boast an excellent record against Scottish clubs in recent years.
