The only positive is that it's still 0-0. Northern Ireland haven't created anything at all - the boys look so tired.

Perhaps we're trying to sit deep and hit the Czech Republic on the counter-attack, but so far nothing's happened.

I'm sure Michael O'Neill will be letting the players know his thoughts, because we have no tempo and have given away the ball too cheaply. But I expect it to be sorted in time for the second half.

  2. World champions Germany 2-0 uppublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 4 September 2016

World champions Germany are off to a flyer in their qualifying campaign. Thomas Muller put them ahead against Norway after 16 minutes before Joshua Kimmich added a second shortly before the interval. Meanwhile, it's goalless between Romania and Montenegro.

And there was me suggesting that Northern Ireland would be pleased enough to go in goalless. Expectations overhaul needed for me.

The Czechs are there for the taking. Maybe.

That is the worst performance I have seen since way before the Euro qualifiers. I have no idea what is wrong with them - they look tired but it's only just the start of the season.

It must be so frustrating for Michael O'Neill.

Northern Ireland have blunted the Czech Republic's crosses but there has been nothing in midfield. It's time for the more experienced players to try and up the pace.

A great chance! The ball just wasn't right.

Gareth McAuley clears a Czech corner and Steven Davis is one-one-one with the last defender. He has 60-odd yards to run though and he doesn't have the legs so he looks for Stuart Dallas screaming up on his right. The pass is just undercooked...

A draw would be a good solid start to the campaign for NI and they look incredibly well organised. Michael O'Neill knows how to set his side up as a spell of sideways Czech passing ends with Vladimir Darida smashing a wayward shot over the bar.

It's still relatively early days but this Czech side looks a pale shadow of some of their former teams.

Some sort of Caribbean steel band has struck up in Prague, unless I'm having a bad trip and it's all in my head. Did anyone else hear that?

Speaking of great chances, Robert Snodgrass could have put Scotland back ahead but his header was well saved.

    Czech Republic 0-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland possibly lucky to still have 11 on the field as Brighton midfielder Oliver Norwood stretches and catches Vaclav Kadlec high, midway up his calf.

He's booked but he could easily have seen red.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 28 mins

That is a good counter, and a really good chance. Conor McLaughlin steals the ball on halfway and he has a man streaking through the middle. It's Paddy McNair, on full throttle. He has to take it early, on his left foot, and it's a decent effort too. But it's saved by the legs of Tomas Vaclik.

Northern Ireland get forward, in numbers too. Kyle Lafferty ends up with an ambitious overhead kick but he can't get it anywhere near the target.

Agreed. There's not been much cut and thrust from either side since that early chance for the hosts.

These are two poor sides. The game's going begging if either of them step up and show that they want to grab it.
