Questions marks beforehand about Giroud scoring important goals - well that's an important one, really important.

It's a lovely goal from Arsenal, great ball in and a lovely ball for Giroud.

    Olivier Giroud (Arsenal, 71 mins)

Talk about an impact substitution. Within seconds of coming on, and with his first touch of the match, Olivier Giroud has restored Arsenal's lead.

It comes from a Kieran Gibbs cross and Giroud, involved in his first Premier League game since 24 September, volleys the Gunners back in front with a fine finish.

Changes for both sides. Olivier Giroud is on up front for Arsenal with Alexis Sanchez moving out to a wide position.

Adnan Januzaj is on for Sunderland.

Cech takes his arms away and Watmore bumps into his shoulder. There's an argument either way in that situation. The referee doesn't know if it's deliberate so it's a fair call from him not to send him off.

It is one of the most one-sided first-halves you will ever see in any Premier League season, but Arsenal's work rate has just dipped massively. We've said all along that 1-0 was not enough.

Arsenal will get absolute abuse if they don't win this.

  8. goal

GOAL - Sunderland 1-1 Arsenalpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 29 October 2016

    Jermain Defoe (Sunderland, 62 mins)

This game should be all over, but now Jermain Defoe, who has hardly had a kick all game, keeps calm to convert a penalty, sending Petr Cech, who is lucky to still be on the pitch, the wrong way.

  9. PENALTY to Sunderlandpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 29 October 2016

    Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal

Unbelievable. Seconds after Arsenal should have had a penalty to potentially go 2-0 ahead, Sunderland are given a spot-kick at the other end.

Duncan Watmore is put through and goes round Petr Cech, who brings him down.

Martin Atkinson runs up to Cech and shows the goalkeeper a yellow card. It could have easily have been a red.

A lucky let-off for Sunderland. Alexis Sanchez twists, turns, and twists some more to create some space before sprinting past Lamine Kone.

The centre-half then looks to have clumsily brought down Sanchez in the penalty area. At first glance it looked a good shout for a penalty. Martin Atkinson said no.

At second glance it looks a definite penalty with Kone going into the back of Sanchez's leg.

You just wonder if Arsenal are going to regret their misses? Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a good chance when he bursts through, but shovels his shot well wide. Another good opportunity wasted.

Sunderland were three on two, they should have done much, much better than that. That was their best moment of the game.

That's the problem that they've got though, they got a nice opportunity, didn't make the most of it and Arsenal's counter-attack ability is legendary.

    Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal

Jermain Defoe sends Duncan Watmore scampering into the Arsenal penalty area, but Watmore opts to pass towards Steven Pienaar instead of going for goal.

Much to the home fans' annoyances, the pass can only find Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny. Groans, and more groans from the locals.

Simon Rigler: This is DEFINITELY the sort of game I can see Arsenal squandering. It should've been wrapped up by now.

Chris Ade: Arsenal need to romp home this advantage, the score line does not reflect the superiority

Ian Shephard: It's going to come down to goal difference this year to decide the league in my opinion...These are the games when we should be scoring three, four or five.

With 65% of the possession in the first half, many of you seem to think the Gunners should have scored more goals. What do you think? How important will goal difference be this year?

    Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez, who was able to carry on despite a strong challenge from Papy Djilobodji, twists and turns on the edge of the Sunderland box but is furious when he does not get a foul.

But it does not take long for the Gunners to regain possession, but they waste the chance with Francis Coquelin shooting harmlessly over the top.

Finally, finally we hear a cheer. Hello everybody, nice to be here!

But this is probably the best period of the game that Sunderland have had, they're actually involved in the game.

Arsenal have got a bit casual, and you can't afford that when you're only 1-0 up.

Daryl from Canterbury: Question is, will this Sunderland side break Derby's record as worst ever team to be in the Prem?

Tom in Kent: Everyone having a go at Moyes doesn't realise he's after Premier League history and the record Derby set in 07/08. Shrewd.

Jonny in Halifax: What do Sunderland and a tooth pick have in common? Two points.

Poor David Moyes... Does anybody think that the Sunderland manager shouldn't lose his job? Remember, it is only 1-0, one goal changes everything.

A glimmer of hope for the home fans. Didier Ndong gets free down the right wing and sends in a low cross, which Jermain Defoe, who has had a quiet game, cannot connect with.

It has still been an easy match for Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech but a rare decent move from the hosts.

This is a game that should be won already, but Arsenal haven't tied it up. You have to get that second goal.

If they do let this slip, you have to say it is same old, same old Arsenal.
