This is Charlie Adam's first Premier League start of the season - his last start game in a 3-1 defeat at Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy. Wonder where that one ranks in his career lows?

So, how tough is 'a cold night in Stoke?'

In winter midweek matches Stoke have a lower win percentage, take fewer points and score fewer goals than they do when the weather is warmer.

It's one of the newer cliches which has crept into the footballing lexicon and is usually aimed at Lionel Messi or some such exotic superstar as a way of questioning how they would adapt to our in no way unique game in England.

As such, it was asked of Swansea's new manager - from the US of all places! - Bob Bradley this week.

Of course, there are no parts of the States with a colder, or less inviting climate, than the Potteries. Absolutely none.

Turns out that Stoke is only the ninth-hardest trip in the Premier League.

But how hard is a cold night in Stoke? We did the numbers earlier this year. And Stoke City FC also tend to find a cold night in Stoke difficult.

    Stoke City

Stoke boss Mark Hughes: "In recent weeks we have been a lot more solid and got back on track – we've been on a little run that has given us confidence and we are looking forward to tonight.

"Wilfried Bony has been doing fine, he is just lacking a goal at the moment - and we hope that comes tonight. He is creating spaces and opportunity for other people to benefit.

"Their side on paper is quality but like us they have had a run of fixtures against top teams."

Plenty of children in Halloween fancy dress have just been led into the stadium, seems cruel all round really. The Bet 365 pitch has been heavily watered by sprinklers for the last few hours. Slick stuff, let's see a slick game too.

  7. Swansea's worst startpublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2016

    Stoke v Swansea (20:00 GMT)

Swansea’s haul of five points from their opening nine league games is their worst start to a Premier League season and their lowest tally since picking up four points from nine games in 1983-84, a season they were relegated from the second tier.

Mark Hughes’ Stoke could keep three successive clean sheets having failed to keep any in their previous 17 Premier League games.

Leon Britton insists 'bargain' Joe Allen is a vastly better player than when the pair were Swansea teammates.

Allen has scored in three of his his last four league games and veteran Britton said it is no surprise to those who watched his development.

"He seems to have settled in very well. Stoke have got themselves a bargain in Joe," said 34-year-old Britton.

"He's scored a lot of goals for Stoke, but it's no surprise to the people who know him. He has added that to his game.

"He's developed a lot. Obviously he went to a big club in Liverpool after leaving here at quite a young age. He dealt with that very well. He's improved since he left here that's for sure."

    Swansea City

Swansea boss Bob Bradley: "Training has been good, we have improved in some areas but now we have got to turn it into results.

"We have tried to raise the level of our pressing, against Watford we won more balls up the field, we want to be a team that in certain moments reacts fast."

Looking forward to tonight? "Absolutely, Halloween in Stoke."

Stoke City forward Bojan Krkic must bide his time in trying to win back his place in the side, says assistant boss Mark Bowen.

The 26-year-old Spaniard has not played since the Potters' 4-1 defeat by Crystal Palace on 18 September and has been an unused substitute for the club's four-game unbeaten run. He's on the bench tonight.

"He's naturally disappointed," Bowen, 52, told BBC Radio Stoke.

"When the team's winning and playing well, you've got to be patient."

Stoke will recognise Swansea's predicament. It's only a little over a month since Mark Hughes' side were rock bottom, conceding goals for fun and looking like a win might be a million miles away.

When they drew at home to West Brom in late September it probably didn't feel much like the green shoots of recovery - especially after conceding a last-minute equaliser - but it was exactly that. Another draw and two wins later, Stoke are on the brink of their best run of league results for two and half years.

Unlike Stoke, Swansea changed their manager - and Bob Bradley will hope that the home draw with Watford last weekend represents their turning point.

Stoke have two former Swansea players in their ranks, but few would have guessed at the start of the season that the one with five goals in five games for club and country would be Joe Allen, and the one without a goal since last Boxing Day would be Wilfried Bony.

Allen scored seven in 150 appearances for the Swans; Bony hit 34 in 70.

Stoke midfielder Joe Allen is in the goalscoring form of his life, having found the net five times in his last five games for the Potters and Wales.

It is not even November and the former Swansea City player is already enjoying the most prolific season of his career, and he finds himself on the cover of tonight’s match programme.

A cult figure for Wales fans – who wore t-shirts bearing the phrase ‘No Allen, no party’ at Euro 2016 – Allen now seems to be garnering a similar following among Stoke supporters.
