Hugs of delight amongst his coaching staff and a double fist pump from him. Pep Guardiola enjoyed that.
He didn't celebrate further but there was a purpose to his stride as he headed back to his seat, a look to the corner of the ground as the significance of what he appears set to achieve starts to sink in.
Manchester City 3-1 Barcelona
Chris Owen: Man City are out-Barcelona-ing Barcelona.... outstanding pace.
Jamie: Forget Messi, De Bruyne is the worlds best.

Moussa Dembele (Pen)
He had a long, long, long wait to take it but Moussa Dembele steers in a penalty in front of the travelling Celtic fans. Monchengladbach are down to 10 now too.
As things stand, Bayern Munich are through to the last 16. Robert Lewandowski has just scored his second goal of the game to put them 2-1 up against PSV. He turned home David Alaba's cross from close range.
Atletico Madrid are still drawing 1-1 with Rostov. A win would take the Spaniards through too.
Paris St-Germain continue to lead Basel 1-0. That would take them into the knockout stages with Arsenal.
Ilkay Gundogan (74 mins)
Is that the goal that gives Manchester City victory? They have been terrific, especially since the interval. Kevin de Bruyne unlocks the Barca back four with a lovely slide-rule pass behind the full-back, sub Jesus Navas drills in a low cross and while Sergio Aguero makes a hash of his connection, it comes off his chest into the path of Ilkay Gundogan, who buries his fourth goal of the week high into the net.
A great goal.
Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona
This will please Pep immensely - Sergio Aguero wins a tackle!
Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona
Seth Gogo Egoeh: Man City may end up ruing these missed chances. At least take one!
Dipesh Shah: What a 2nd half of football it has been so far. Surely there are going to be more more goals.
Kym: Too many close calls. I won't be surprised if Man City wins. They are playing magnificently.
Viv: How many more chances will Man City blow? Should have been out of sight by now, at least a 4-1 to City!

Ludogorets Razgrad 2-2 Arsenal
Into the last 20 minutes in Sofia. As it stands the Gunners are through with a point.
Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona
Do we mention it? Dare we?
OK. Lionel Messi has done nothing since half-time...
Jesus Navas replaces Raheem Sterling.
Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona
Barca just can't live with City's pressing at the moment, Ilkay Gundogan is running rings around Sergi Busquets. He wins it back, Kevin de Bruyne sees a gem of a pass to free the overlapping Pablo Zabaleta, but Raheem Sterling stretches to reach it - and he's offside. He just didn't hear the shout. Zabaleta was in...
Ludogorets Razgrad 2-2 Arsenal
The tricky Wanderson bluffs his way into the penalty area again but once more David Ospina makes a block.

Fernandinho headed straight down the tunnel after being substituted, a consoling arm around the shoulder from one of City's medical staff.
An ever-present in the Premier League and Champions League this season, City manager Pep Guardiola will not want to be without the Brazilian.
The league leaders play Middlesbrough here on Saturday.
Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona
This is some game! Barcelona now have the chance to level things up as Luis Suarez brilliantly steps away from his man and squares it for Andre Gomes, he has all the time in the world but blasts his shot against the full face of the crossbar from 12 yards!
A minute later City break, and Kevin de Bruyne curls a low shot against the outside of the post!
Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona
Barcelona might just need a right-back. Dani Alves left in the summer and Sergi Roberto has been filling in, but he's had a torrid time this evening. Again he loses out in possession and City are so close to making him pay. Aleksandar Kolarov slides the ball across and both Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero can't turn it in!
Ludogorets Razgrad 2-2 Arsenal
It's been all Arsenal but they are nearly caught out on the break as Wanderson is played in on the left, he cuts it back but it's too close to David Ospina and he makes the save!
Manchester City 2-1 Barcelona
It hasn't worked out for Arda Turan at Barca up until now but he has half an hour here to make his mark after replacing the busy Ivan Rakitic.

Alfan Hamid: We see you Arsenal - giving Ludogorets a lead so that after the comeback you get all the media attention. Nice play Wenger.
ROY: A little more conviction at the back and we will see this through. We'll score another 2-3 past this side.
Can Arsenal break the deadlock and beat Ludogorets Razgrad? What will be the score be?

Manchester City have got Barcelona rocking here and The Etihad is loving it.
Pep Guardiola's micro-management is frantic, even by his standards. He has just performed a touchline manouevre - which looked like instructions for his team to push forward - that would have received full marks on "Strictly Come Dancing."
