Normal service resumed. Manchester United in possession, pinning the home side back in their own half. Ander Herrera has a pop but his daisy-cutter lacks power. Meat and drink for home keeper Igor Levchenko.

But United haven't cleared their lines yet. The ball is recycled by the home side, Ivan Petriak arrowing an angled shot into the side-netting from 15 yards. That's got the crowd warmed up.

It's a battle to finish first in Group B as APOEL host Olympiacos. Both sides are through and just a draw will be enough for APOEL to progress as group winners. A win will see Olympiacos take top spot.

It's the same set up in Group C as Anderlecht host St Etienne. The French side need the three points to finish first.

Roma have wrapped up first place in Group E so it is left to Astra and Austria Wien to try and snatch second. Astra, who host Roma, are through if they win or if Austria fail to beat Viktoria Plzen. Austria will finish second if they win and Astra fail to win.

Finally, in Group F, Athletic Club and Genk are through so all there is to play for is who finishes first. Genk, who play Sassuolo, have an away goals head-to-head advantage and will finish top if they are level on points with Athletic, who are at Rapid Wien.

A ball straight in the chops is not what you need in freezing temperatures. It is not what you need in any weather. Denys Bezborodko has that startled look in his eyes - like you get when you come out of the sauna and jump straight in a cold swimming pool.

Manchester United have started at a quick tempo. Clearly keen to warm those muscles up as soon as possible.

Juan Mata threads a throughball towards Zlatan brahimovic, home keeper Igor Levchenko alert enough to gather. Big morale-boosting cheer for the young stopper by the home fans.

Ooops. Zorya keeper Igor Levchenko suffers an early bout of the jitters. He shanks a backpass out for a throw-in under a bit of pressure from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ahead of all this week's European matches there will be a minute's silence held to pay respect to the victims of last week's plane crash involving the Chapecoense team

Seventy-one people, including 19 players and staff of the Brazilian football club, were killed in last Monday's crash in Colombia.

The team was travelling to the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final - which they have now been awarded - against Atlético Nacional.

"This tragedy has shaken the world of football, and we would like to send our support to all of those affected by it," said Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin.

  14. The pitch is not dangerous - Mourinhopublished at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2016

Zorya Luhansk v Man Utd (18:00 GMT)

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho tells BT Sport about the pitch conditions: "Not too bad. Difficult to play. It will be hard and fast. For sure the quality of the passing and control will be not the same but at least it is not dangerous conditions.

"We look to qualification. If you give us a point we are happy with a point. But one thing is to be happy with a point and another is to play for a point - which is risky. We want to be offensive and try to win the game."

On the return of Eric Bailly: "Phi Jones and Marcos Rojo did five great matches for us in a row playing well and solid. To have Eric back we know he goes to African Cup of Nations in a couple of weeks but in this busy period to have him is a good protection for us."

Turns out Jose Mourinho isn't that miserable after all. The Manchester United manager has spent a good five minutes or so posing for selfies and signing memorabilia for the young Zorya fans.

He's currently crouched down in the tunnel signing the luminous yellow boots of one kid. Fair play.

We have seen some great European nights involving British clubs over the years.

    Lisbon 1967. Barcelona 1999. Istanbul 2005.

And then there was 29 September, 2016. What do you mean you don't remember?

Southampton's goalless trip to Hapoel Bee'r Sheva? Followed by Manchester United's uninspiring 1-0 win over Zorya Luhansk?

Grim. Please, please, please let's not have a repeat in tonight's reverse fixtures.

Will tonight be Wayne Rooney's night?

The Red Devils skipper is threatening to break Sir Bobby Charlton's 43-year standing as the club's all-time leading scorer.

Rooney needs one goal to draw level with Charlton's tally of 249 strikes.

Let's see if he can do it on a cold night in Ukraine...

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was pacing about the pitch earlier, sticking the toes of his leather brogues into the surface.

"It's not so bad, but it is difficult to play," he tells BT Sport. More of his pre-match thoughts on the way...
