  1. Amoruso filled me in on Gers - Garnerpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

New Rangers striker Joe Garner says former Ibrox defender Lorenzo Amoruso has told him what life will be like with the Scottish Premiership outfit.

Amoruso joined Garner's first club Blackburn Rovers when he left Rangers in 2003 - and Garner, who has agreed a three-year deal after joining from Preston, told Rangers TV:, external "You've seen some massive stars up here.

"When I was a kid at Blackburn, Lorenzo came down from Rangers and didn't shut up about what it was like when he was here.

"So I have memories of that, and now I'm just really looking forward to getting involved and playing my part here. I think I can add a bit of physicality up front and hopefully goals too.

"My link-up play is fine and I'm just really excited to get out there and get started."

Garner could make his Rangers debut against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Friday.

"Like Leicester, Beer Sheva are not part of the 'big four' quartet that is made up of powerhouse clubs Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Maccabi Haifa and Beitar Jerusalem.

"Yet they emerged top of the pile, two points clear of Hapoel Tel Aviv, who remain the most decorated club in the country.

"It was their first championship in 40 years and it shook Israeli football to its core."

Earlier today we promised you a wee bit of video magic courtesy of Pollok Juniors and the refined boot of Tam Hanlon, the club's right-back. Danny McGrain, Sandy Jardine, Doug Rougvie, John Holt, Alan Hutton, smashing Scottish full-backs all, but did they EVER score a hat-trick like this?

  4. English scouting missionspublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

    Richard Wilson
    BBC Scotland

"Newcastle United’s reported interest in the Hearts and Scotland full-back Callum Paterson as a signing for their under-23 side may be part of a wider recruitment campaign by English clubs.

"The Premier League replaced its under-21 competition with the Premier League 2 this season, raising the age limit from under-21 to under-23, and a number of clubs have looking to Scotland as a potential market for players aged between 21 and 23 to fill their squads.

"Newcastle United have already signed 20-year-old Stuart Findlay from Celtic, who spent last season on loan at Kilmarnock, and scouts from other English teams have been monitoring players in Scotland for that remit during this transfer window."

  10. Things for Rodgers to ponderpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

We wonder if Brendan Rodgers will start the match with Danish defender Erik Sviatchenko? He has recovered from a groin injury and was on the bench for the 4-2 win at St Johnstone on Saturday. However, that was the second successive game in which Celtic have lost two goals despite being the superior team, something Rodgers admits to causing him concern. Should he reinstate Sviatchenko alongside Kolo Toure, then 21-year-old Eoghan O'Connell would most likely be the player to drop out.

And will Patrick Roberts feature at the Turner Stadium now that he has recovered from a hamstring complaint? The tricky winger - on loan from Manchester City - looked good before he picked up the injury and if things are not going to plan for Celtic, Rodgers may throw him on to offer a type of threat that Hapoel Beer Sheva did not encounter in Glasgow.

  12. Rejoice, Boyce!published at 10:51 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

The Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill was a guest on Sportsound here at Pacific Quay in Glasgow last night. He told listeners that he will be recalling Ross County striker Liam Boyce into his squad for the World Cup qualifier with the Czech Republic.

The Ross County striker was edged out by Wigan Athletic forward Will Grigg for a place in the 23-man squad for the Euro 2016 finals in France.

"Liam is in good form and he has a chance of being involved obviously," said O'Neill.

  13. The Turner Stadiumpublished at 10:21 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

You have to wonder what sort of atmosphere Celtic will be playing in at the Turner Stadium this evening. Not only is there the prospect of a Champions League place up for grabs, but the display of Palestine flags at Celtic Park last week is unlikely to have won the Scottish champions many admirers among the hosts.

  14. Skipper wary of Beer Sheva fightbackpublished at 10:16 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

Celtic captain Scott Brown: "You never know what can happen in football.

"We need to focus on ourselves more than anything and if we do our job properly we will see what happens.

"We are looking forward to it. It was a great game at Celtic Park, the first half was exceptional. The previous two seasons we may have been happy with 3-2 but went on and scored a couple more.

"We showed we are a great attacking team and we are defending well as a team."

  15. What's on the back pages?published at 09:53 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Darren Fletcher is almost certain to replace Scott Brown as Scotland captain, according to many of this morning' papers.

    • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says the prestige of playing in the Champions League, not the £25m at stake, is the main motivation to secure a place in the group stage
    • Mario Bilate, referring to his injury-blighted time at Dundee United, describes Dundee as a "drab, gloomy, working-class town"

  16. First half hour 'critical' for Celticpublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

The former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner is over in Israel to cover the game against Hapoel Beer Sheva for BBC Scotland.

He joined presenter Phil Goodlad on Good Morning Scotland earlier today and told listeners his old team will "be fine" tonight as they seek a place in the Champions League group stage - just as long as they avoid losing an early goal.

"That's going to be absolutely critical, that first half hour," said the Irishman.

"They've got to manage the game in a professional manner as they are three goals up. They shouldn't have any fears and they just need to get on the ball and move it around the pitch. If they do that and do what they've been doing in the last few games and in the first half last week then they'll be fine."

  17. Juanma's record with Heartspublished at 09:42 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

Juanma scored 13 times in his debut season for the Jambos last term. Not so admirable was the 25-year-old's run of bookings - nine in 14 games from mid-August to November before he cleaned up his act somewhat.

"Juanma has returned to Scotland after a deal with Belgian side Waasland-Beveren fell through. There is still an outside chance of a deal being concluded. However, BBC Sport Scotland has learned that other clubs are showing an interest in signing the Spanish striker."

  19. Scottish football's hat-trick heropublished at 09:13 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

We have a treat in store for our website visitors and Reporting Scotland viewers today. We've been speaking to Scottish football's most exciting scoring sensation, who somehow was overlooked by Gordon Strachan yesterday in his squad announcement for the World Cup qualifier against Malta. Hmm, you're thinking Ross McCormack or Jordan Rhodes, right?

Well, not quite. However, if either player can ever match the outstanding hat-trick scored by Pollok Juniors' right-back Tam Hanlon against Neilston then I'll eat a plate of pebbles. We'll post the goals and hear from Scotland's answer to Cafu in this live football page later today.

  20. Coming up...published at 09:05 British Summer Time 23 August 2016

A very good morning to you all. Who knows what else today will bring in terms of Scottish football news, but we can be just about certain that Celtic will play Hapoel Beer Sheva in their Champions League play-off second leg this evening and that this afternoon the Scotland Under-21s head coach Ricky Sbragia will announce his squad for the European Under-21 Championship qualifying matches against Macedonia and Ukraine next month.
