Wayne Rooney has the ball in the net - but he's offside! It was a great header from Timothy Fosu-Mensah against the bar and Rooney prods in, but the flag was already raised.

Frustration building among some Northampton Town fans who think their team is standing on ceremony a little - and they have a point.

Manchester United are being allowed to pass the ball around without being placed under too much pressure. The Cobblers need to start making life more uncomfortable for Jose Mourinho's team.

    Swansea 0-0 Man City

Swansea's Neil Taylor ghosts past Pablo Zabaleta and produces a peach of a cross, but Vincent Kompany turns behind for a corner on the stretch with exemplary timing. A reminder for both City and Belgium what they have been missing since May.

It's a really good finish from Michael Carrick. Cool, calm and a lovely contact.

You have got to feel for Adam Smith a little bit. He's lost his concentration.

    It's cost Northampton.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:05 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

    Swansea 0-0 Man City

The early signs were that this is going to be a long night for Swansea City.

Manchester City are keeping possession for long stretches and have already missed a good chance through Angelino.

However, City nearly gifted Swansea the lead when Willy Caballero passed straight to Borja, but the goalkeeper tipped over to deny Swansea's record signing a first goal.

That was an absolute schoolboy error from Adam Smith and they've paid for it. He must be wishing the ground will swallow him up.

    Michael Carrick (17 mins)

Adam Smith has been superb for Northampton Town since he arrived but his elementary error proves costly.

Wayne Rooney lashes the free-kick into the wall and Michael Carrick side-foots the rebound high into the net from the edge of the area. Great finish.

Wayne Rooney is not really a penalty box poacher, so it's tough with those kind of chances.

He's got to try to get on the end of those types of crosses.

That was an ideal opportunity for Wayne Rooney to lift his and Manchester United's confidence but it was a tentative poke from right in front of goal rather than a finish of any conviction. Needless to say, he felt the full force of the mockery of Northampton Town's fans.
