Matt Briffa: I found out today that I used to go to the same Portuguese school as Eric Dier and Kasper Schmeichel

Dan Pinchy: I saw Robbie Fowler buying Lychees in Townsville, QLD. He's a lot shorter in real life

Manchester United came to town in 2004, with a team containing Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Diego Forlan, John O'Shea and a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Forlan had a penalty saved but class showed through as United picked up a routine 3-0 win.

Tonight the bookmakers make the same scoreline a 6/1 shot, with Northampton 14/1 to win the game.

Manchester City are the current League Cup holders and they will be looking to move a step closer to Wembley with a win in south Wales this evening.

Pep Guardiola's side have looked nothing shy of superb in every game this season. So far.

Can Swansea dump an EFL fly in the ointment?

  6. 'Anticipation in the air'published at 19:19 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

Northampton v Man Utd (19:45 BST)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Sixfields

Sixfields is alive with anticipation as Manchester United come to town in the EFL Cup off the back of three successive defeats and growing criticism of manager Jose Mourinho's methods.

Mourinho has won this competition in both of his spells at Chelsea but he will simply want victory tonight to get United back on track.

United captain Wayne Rooney has suffered some of the most severe criticism but he keeps his place in the starting line-up tonight as Mourinho makes nine changes from the side that lost 3-1 at Watford. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford are on the bench.

Confidence will be high among the home side - their defeat at Chesterfield on Saturday ended a superb 31-match unbeaten run.

They aren't starting tonight, but the thought of Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Paul Pogba warming up in a Daventry car park is incredibly amusing to me.

So what's the most unusual place you've come across a proper footballing star? Which legend have you seen in your hometown?

    The more obscure, the better.

A great line from Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman ahead of tonight's game:

"We have had away trips where we have taken 500 or 600 fans and they have drowned out the 10-20,000 fans of the opposing team."

We expect to hear the Accy army in full voice now.

He also said: "We will be going out there to win. It is hard to prepare for this one as we don't know what team they will put out but we do know their style of play.

"It will be a good side whoever we play as they are Premier League players. We will not be going there to park the bus, we will be going there to attack and score goals and if that means we get beat 7-0 so be it."

Ex-Leicester striker at Sixfields, BBC Radio 5 live

We used to train in a car park every day at Aldershot! We were bottom three all season!

Jose Mourinho has made 22 changes in three games which is worrying. He's already singling players out for criticism. We are getting back to the Louis van Gaal problem where players are being switched about and being played out of position. They haven't been convincing.
