  1. Celtic's pain in Spain as Barca run riotpublished at 22:35 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    FT: Barcelona 7-0 Celtic

Well Celtic's joy at qualifying for the Champions League group stage was checked with a heavy dose of reality this evening.

The Parkhead side slumped to the heaviest European defeat in their history, undone by the genius of Barcelona's deadly attacking trio.

Lionel Messi bagged three of the seven goals to become the first player in history to score six Champions League hat-tricks. Neymar provided an extraordinary four assists and helped himself to a goal as well, while Luis Suarez notched a double to compound Celtic's humilation. In amongst all that was as sublime a volleyed goal as you are likely to see from Andres Iniesta.

Things may have been different if Moussa Dembele had converted a first-half penalty with the score at 1-0, but with Barca in this form it is hard to imagine that they would not have found a way to win even if they had been pegged back at that stage.

It was simply a mesmerising display from Luis Enrique's men, who will take some stopping as they go in search of a sixth European Cup.

Celtic will look to bounce back in Champions League Group C, but things don't get much easier as it is Pep Guardiola's Manchester City next up at Celtic Park on 28 September.

Thanks for your company and contributions this evening.

    Goodnight.

  3. No harder place for Celtic than Camp Noupublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    FT Barcelona 7-0 Celtic

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers: "These players have been brilliant. They couldn't have come to a more difficult place in world football after a highly intense game at the weekend, where they dealt with so much pressure and played so well, to have had hardly any preparation time, to come and play against the world's best at keeping the ball, it was a tough ask for them. That last 15-20 minutes probably did feel quite long."

  7. 'We're frustrated and disappointed'published at 22:09 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    FT: Barcelona 7-0 Celtic

“Of course it’s never nice professionally when that happens. I thought in the first period of the game our set-up and organisation was good.

"We gave away a goal very early which is certainly not what you want to do here. But I thought we came back into the game and once we actually got a bit of belief and a bit of confidence to pass the ball then we started to open up and create opportunities.

"Obviously there’s a massive moment in the first-half. If you can score the penalty and get it to 1-1 then it can make the crowd a bit nervy, especially after the weekend loss. To then very quickly go down to 2-0 was disappointing.

"They get the third goal and I think that combination of tiredness, mixed in with their quality and their freshness, these are top-class players. They’ve done that to much better teams than ourselves.

"By the time the end of the game comes you are frustrated and disappointed.”

Alex Story in Greenock: "I know Brendan wants a keeper who can play with his feet, would rather have a keeper who can use his arms, Gordon is the better keeper."

Jimmy, Edinburgh: "Wow! What can you do about 7 lucky goals!"

Anonymous: "Celtic made it easier for Barcelona. No fight in the team. Just watching Barcelona run past them."

John MacLean, Cheers Bar, Aberdeen: "Scotland shamed yet again. Celtic a mid-table English Championship team at best. Where does that leave the rest of Scottish Football? Only two Scottish players in the starting line-up?"

Nico: "Unfortunately Man City will easily do the same to Celtic. They are as good if not better than Barca!"

"We were fearing the worst and hoping for the best. Unfortunately we got the worst in terms of the scoreline.

"There are not too many things or positives you can take from the Celtic performance.

"To try and stop Barcelona is very, very difficult and they've proved once again tonight that they are a world class outfit."

  12. Celtic sunk by beautiful Barcapublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    FT: Barcelona 7-0 Celtic

Brendan Rodgers described his old mate Luis Suarez as a "beautiful man" in the build-up to this match. Well the former Liverpool striker and his partners-in-crime Lionel Messi and Neymar gave a display of breathtaking beauty this evening.

It is the heaviest defeat of Rodgers' managerial career and the worst defeat in Celtic's European history.

However, they are not the first team to be destroyed by this Barcelona side and they certainly will not be the last.

This WILL be Celtic's record European defeat.

The defence is all over the place after chasing Barca shadows for the majority of the match.

Andres Iniesta plays Lionel Messi in, he goes to the byline and cuts back for Luis Suarez to side-foot home his second and Barca's seventh.

Painful night for Brendan Rodgers and his men.

    Barcelona 6-0 Celtic

A couple of notable landmarks for Barcelona's rampant superstars this evening.

Lionel Messi becomes the first man in Champions League history to score six hat-tricks in the competition.

Neymar is the first man to provide four assists in a match since Zlatan Ibrahimovic for PSG back in 2012.

Celtic hoped to make history when they qualified for the Champions League, but not like this.

  18. A Brazilian masterclasspublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    Barcelona 6-0 Celtic

Lionel Messi may grab the headlines tomorrow after bagging a hat-trick but Neymar has been utterly unplayable this evening.

The Brazil striker has laid on four goals this evening and scored one himself.

    A masterclass.

  19. goal

GOAL Barcelona 6-0 Celticpublished at 75 mins

    Luis Suarez

Now all of the famous attacking trio are on the score-sheet.

Neymar clips a ball into the penalty area, Suarez has his back to goal but takes a touch on his chest, swivels and smashes a finish into the roof of the net.

It is six for Barca and they may not be finished yet....

  20. Celtic punch-drunkpublished at 21:12 British Summer Time 13 September 2016

    Barcelona 5-0 Celtic

    Tom English
BBC Sport Scotland at Camp Nou

All sorts of boxing metaphors apply here. Celtic punch-drunk as Barca unload on them. Brendan Rodgers would be throwing the towel in at this point.

It's sensational stuff from Barca. Celtic's nerves have been completely shredded. This is the 13th time that Barca have scored five, or more, since the start of last season. They got eight against Deportivo.

    Gulp.
