Steve McClaren began his second spell in charge of Derby with victory against Leeds and a first league win at home this season.

Derby manager Steve McClaren: "I think you could see the nervousness of the players but they showed fight and the attitude was great.

"We worked our socks off and we needed that second goal. We have to learn that.

"The last 10 minutes was always going to be nervous but we rode our luck and got through it and it was a big three points.

"We said we need to put a marker down at five o'clock and we have done. I saw certain aspects I like and potential in the team but there is a lot of work and a long way to go.'

"The rain now coming down steadily in Birmingham B6 as the second half gets under way. It's hard to say how this one will end up now that Villa have let yet another lead slip.

"They failed to win after taking the lead on five separate occasions under Roberto di Matteo - but has Bruce inspired them sufficiently at half time not to add to that unwanted statistic?"

Rotherham United were beaten 3-1 away at Norwich City, a result that leaves them three points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Rotherham manager Alan Stubbs: "We were playing against a Premier League group of players in all but name and when we made it 2-1 we gave them a little scare.

"Norwich are a good side and they deserved to win the game. The lads gave it a good go and had we been up against a lesser side we might have got something from it.

"I have been in plenty of dressing rooms where there have been one or two players who tend to quit when things are going against them but I don't see that here.

"The lads are going out there and doing the best they can and that is all you can ask of them."

Blackburn achieved their first clean sheet of the Championship season in a goalless draw with Ipswich.

Blackburn manager Owen Coyle: "We knew we'd have to stand up and be counted. But did we create clear cut chances? No. That was my disappointment. We got to the final third and wide areas, and normally we have players who can create spark and be creative, but we didn't do that.

"We knew it was going to be a tight game but the important thing today was that we showed we've learned a number of lessons.

"And I believe that if it had been in the first two weeks of the season, we'd have lost."
