Southampton turning it up a notch as Jay Rodriguez turns on a cross from the right and steers a volley into the hands of Victor Valdes. The home fans are in happier mood though.

Dusan Tadic is then booked for preventing a Boro counter.

Shamim Miah: No-one will buy Paul Pogba for £90m anymore, best we could get is £30m, even that looks overvalued.

Kartik Venkat: Herrera has already twice expressed his frustration with Mkhitaryan for not covering his man. Interesting.

Peter Malath:  Dembele is dominating Pogba in midfield so far.

    Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

It's fair to say Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been a spectator so far.

Just the four touches for Man United's man up top.

Good effort! Christian Eriksen fires in a dipping free-kick from a good way out and David de Gea has to move to his right and make a smart save!

Clasie by name, not classy by nature. Jordy Clasie has a sighter from 16 yards after a fine ball in from the left but he snatches at it and bobbles it way, way wide.

Our optimistic early-morning hopes of seeing a Premier League goalscoring record look sillier and sillier by the minute. Twenty nine goals yesterday, one so far today.

When Spurs are good in an attacking sense, it's because their full-backs are pushing forward. But Man Utd are pushing them back so far this afternoon.

This is an intriguing contest already.

Dusan Tadic, already playing in a mask after breaking his nose against Wales, is down in a heap after a tackle from Fabio, but the Southampton man is going to be OK.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, speaking to Match Of The Day: "For sure there was relief, it was a tough game and we prepared for this situation. We played with passion. West Brom is a tough team, a physical team who are difficult to break down. It was a good win and now we must continue.

"We must know the other teams try to block our football and for this reason it's important to play with patience. Then you must pay attention, avoid the counter attack. We had a dangerous opponent, but we were good for commitment and work rate. We deserved to win.

"We have won nine in a row which is fantastic because this league is very tough. We are working very well. I think West Brom prepared well defensively and tried to close every space. This game if you find the goal quickly, you can have an easier game. When you don't find the goal, it becomes more difficult but we were very good to find in the right moment to do it."

Liz Tray: Is it just me; Dele Alli is overrated, right? Bad tempered, red waiting to happen, doesn't mind a dive. English desperation!

Sho Rahman:  Why does Fellaini still make the bench!!!!!!! So infuriating.

Peter Malath: Every time Mkhitaryan touches the ball, I feel something good is not to happen. Haven't felt that in a long time since Scholes.

That Paul Pogba shot in the opening minute aside, it's been a game played out in the middle third thus far. Christian Eriksen gets clear on the right but hits an early cross over an empty penalty area.

It's not traditionally been a good hunting ground for Spurs, especially not in the league, but your feel this physicality down the spine of the Spurs side might just get them a memorable result today.

Dembele is a massive player in those transition phases.

Toby Alderweireld with a booming 60-yard diagonal into the run of Dele Alli, Spurs scored from that one a few times last season, this time Alli can't get there and there's a suspicion that Phil Jones had a piece of his shirt on the way.

[I may be talking out of line here but] Southampton probably wouldn't say no to having Morgan Schneiderlin back. He isn't wanted at Old Trafford - he's played just 11 minutes in the Premier League all season and is not in the 18 today.

Spurs are just having a few problems dealing with Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the moment, he's rolling inside in front of Danny Rose and beyond Son.

The two are not sure whether to go in tight, where United can play around the outside with Valencia.

Middlesbrough making all of the early running against a flat Saints side. Viktor Fischer runs away from several Southampton players easily but can't quite link up with Cristhian Stuani.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is beginning to look the business for Manchester United. A deft backheel and then an eye-of-the-needle pass but Toby Alderweireld cuts it out.

    Southampton 0-0 Middlesbrough

Jordan Rhodes has done more bench-warming than he would have expected since his big-money move to Boro but on his second Premier League start he almost has them ahead. Southampton's defence is absent without leave and Rhodes arrives at the near post only to see Fraser Forster save his shot.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2016

    Manchester United 0-0 Tottenham

A flying start from Manchester United as their three big summer arrivals link up superbly. Henrikh Mkhitaryan runs away from three Spurs players and finds Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the right, he looks up and picks out Paul Pogba arriving at a rate of knots and the Frenchman's side-footed shot is pushed clear by Hugo Lloris!
