Spare a thought for Ben Gibson.

George Friend is the Middlesbrough club captain - so as soon as he steps off the bench he marches over to Gibson to claim the captain's armband.

    Bit harsh.

I'm surprised most Boro fans aren't bald - because Adama Traore makes me want to pull my hair out.

He's away and free down the right, with all the time 2017 has to offer to get the cross in, but he puts it beyond everyone.

Ouch. This looks a bad one for Antonio Barragan.

The Boro full-back swings his right foot at the ball while leaping in the air and by the time he hits the ground his face is scrunched up in pain and he's holding his hamstring.

He's going straight off and on comes George Friend for Middlesbrough.

Mick Baughan: Gazza's goal against Scotland in Euros

Simon Goodall: Steve Mackenzie's volley for Man City in the Cup Final replay of 81. Always forgotten cos of Villa's dribble, but what a goal!

Arshia Hashemi: Pajtim Kasami vs Crystal Palace 2013. Still don't understand how he managed to control & volley from that angle, & at that pace

Alvaro Negredo has the best chance of the game so far - although that doesn't mean much.

Gaston Ramirez sticks a cross deep to the back post and Negredo is stretching to try and steer on to the Leicester goal, but it goes wide.

You can understand why the Boro fans are annoyed. They've watched Mahrez go down twice. Then the referee has a card out for Ramirez for his complaint after he went down.

It goes back to those two Mahrez incidents, and the referee is in a position where everyone is saying 'oh, you're giving fouls for that now' and it becomes a part of the game.

Hmmm. Gaston Ramirez goes down under a should-to-shoulder challenge with Nampalys Mendy.

No free-kick given - if the referee thinks it's a dive he's in bother as he was just booked.

Plenty of contact though - he's fine.

One of Fabio and Gaston Ramirez get a booking - neither of the Boro players are sure who it was.

Fabio checks if it was him - nope, it was Ramirez for a foul on Nampalys Mendy and then his subsequent complaints.

John Dunthorne: If the quality in the first match is anything to go by, the rest of the 2 games in 3 days programme worth a miss, nice walk?

Nice walk...with your phone out following us on the BBC Sport app (or listening on BBC Radio 5 live) hey John?

Andy King, Christian Fuchs and Riyad Mahrez have an animated chat about who will get to take a free-kick on the left corner of the Boro area.

Mahrez, who put the last one into the wall, is quickly told to jog on.

It's King who hits it, but straight into the arms of Brad Guzan.

Fuchs has the ticket for the next roll of the dice, you'd think.

That last Middlesbrough attack down the right was symbolic of their general approach. That flank is clearly an area they feel they can get joy as 66% of their play is coming down that side.

After a shaky start, Boro are looking good.

Adama Traore is finding his happy place and this time has Andy King on toast down the right, before picking out Marten de Roon in the box - but the shot is clipped wide.

  13. Direct Foxespublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Leicester

The early tale - statistically at least - sees possession shared evenly but Leicester are the far more direct of the two sides. Less than 9% of the play has been in their final third while they are getting the ball forward quickly.

Huth sticks his arms up in the air and keeps his body straight. There is nothing you can do as a defender. There is contact, but contact does not mean a penalty kick.

    Traore runs into the defender.

Speaking of Adama Traore, here he is causing trouble.

He wriggles away from Christian Fuchs and Nampalys Mendy, before bouncing into Roberth Huth on the edge of the area.

The appeals go up - referee Robert Madley has a little look and says 'no'.

There's contact, so there was definitely something to consider.

The work rate of Leicester City is very good at the minute.

Okazaki will chase and chase until he runs out of gas, normally at around 60 minutes. Mahrez is chasing down and Ulloa has a great work rate too.

There is no opportunity for the backline of Middlesbrough to get the ball down and play out.

Scott D: 2 top goals worth reliving. Hoddle v Oxford '87 his last for Spurs. And that chip v Watford in '83. Pure magic.

El Capitano: Ryan Giggs v Arsenal FACup semi Villa Park. Mesmerising run and rifle shot

John Wilde: Cahill's overhead kick against Birmingham City, surrounded by blue noses and a Utd fan who said we'd loose - priceless AVFC

While we're on the subject of top five lists today, Adama Traore would make my five most frustrating Premier League players.

The often tricky forward fails to control a bouncing ball and lets it go out.

The Riverside anticipates his every move though - gets them off their seats.

Leicester are putting themselves on top as Middlesbrough are starting to look a tad unsure of themselves.

Plenty of balls into the box from the Foxes, but Boro are just about dealing with the pressure.
