Loftus-Cheek will be so disappointed with that.  A great chance to get on the scoresheet. It's given away sloppily but he has to finish that. He has been very relaxed and casual but if anything he needed a bit of curl or whip on it.

Should have been three. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is picked out in space by Michy Batshuayi, rolling his effort from the left side of the Posh area past the right-hand post. Close. But not close enough.

You don't see that enough from Moussa Sissoko. We know he prefers to play centrally but that's the power he has, he can take the game away from people. He can be a real threat for Tottenham but they haven't seen the best of him.

What a run! Moussa Sissoko revs up the engine and sticks his foot on the gas. The Spurs midfielder glides through a pack of would-be Villa challengers before stumbling to the ground - without being illegally stopped - about 20 yards out.

Tottenham, albeit a much-changed Tottenham, quickly into their stride. Villa barely had a kick yet.

  8. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Tottenham 0-0 Aston Villa

Here we go then. Mike Dean is the man in the middle and toots his whistle for the first time. That, unless I'm very much mistaken, means it is game on. I'm not. Game on!

Ahhhh. A nice warm embrace between Messrs Pochettino and Bruce. Almost show-time at the White Hart Lane building site.

Both clubs know a bit about winning the FA Cup. Could it by one of their years? The two teams, led out by Eric Dier and James Chester, saunter out to the sound of 4,000-odd Villa fans stretching their vocal chords.

Just 10 minutes to go until kick-off in the final game of the afternoon. Will Spurs make it safely through? Or can Aston Villa spring a minor upset?

    Chelsea 2-0 Peterborough

    Matthew Upson

Peterborough have made Chelsea play properly and for that I applaud them. It has been entertaining, they said they would not sit back and they have pressed Chelsea. That for me is when they are vulnerable, when they lose possession high up the pitch the speed Chelsea have can expose them.

    Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talking to BBC Sport: "They created small spaces and we made our own problems. A game like this is not easy to make exciting. We had a young side so that's difficult. We can do better and if we do better then we have a good chance of making the next round.

"With our other line-up it could be possible that the result was still the same. Not likely but possible. It was a good experience for the boys."

  17. 'Plymouth deserved the draw'published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talking to BT Sport: "It is not a result we wished for but it is not frustrating - that's football. Plymouth deserved the draw and the rematch.

"We started well, we played football but then we lost patience too early and tried to force it. This team could have played much better. Now we go to Plymouth for the first time in my life - all good.

"I don't know how many people live in Plymouth - but it felt like the whole of Plymouth was in the 18-yard box.

"We needed to stay cool and patient - that's the biggest challenge in football when you're playing against a deep lying defensive side. I made the decision to make changes and name a young side - that's life."

  18. "Kamikaze"published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Chelsea 2-0 Peterborough

    Matthew Upson
Former Arsenal & West Ham defender on 5 live Sports Extra

They went too far Peterborough, committing too many people. It's three versus two, then four versus two. It's a poor goal to concede. A lovely touch from Loftus-Cheek but that is kamikaze from Peterborough.

GOAL - Chelsea 2-0 Peterborough Unitedpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2017

    Michy Batshuayi (43 mins)

I mentioned that Peterborough games tend to feature goals at both ends but sometimes you can be too bold! They have eight men in the Chelsea half and one pass leads to a three-on-two counter for the hosts. Branislav Ivanovic's cross to the back post is great, Ruben Loftus-Cheek cushions a volley into the run of Michy Batshuayi, who buries a low shot into the corner. Lovely stuff.
