An insight into the meticulous approach to modern-day football was seen in front of the home dug-out just then.

When Michael Carrick was told he was coming on, Jose Mourinho and assistant Rui Faria gathered in a huddle around the veteran midfielder and explained precisely what they wanted him to do with the aid of numerous notes on a laminated sheet.

Even after Mourinho went back to watch the game, Faria carried on for another minute or so before Carrick took off his tracksuit top and made his entrance.

Marcus Rashford takes a corner, about as well as Harry Kane does, booting it right out the back of the area.

Celta Vigo are a nice football team to watch.

They move the ball well but you can see how teams score against them. They really are lacking in the final third. 

Michael Carrick makes an instant tackle on the edge of the area and is really re-organising everyone around. Paul Pogba is sent out to the left, to stop the dangerous Mallo making so much ground.

Whenever there is an ounce of danger, there are red shirts surrounding the Celta players... 

They are doing that really well. 

Michael Carrick is on to see this one over the line. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the man who comes off. 

A real chance! John Guidetti is free on the penalty spot to meet a cross from Mallo, he just gets his angles and timing all wrong and ends up heading well, well wide.

We are entering 'now-or-never- time for Celta I reckon. They need two goals. Daley Blind does his best to help out with a miscued header but it drifts over his own bar. 

A crisp strike from 25 yards from sub Jozabed has Sergio Romero in a spot of bother - but the ball is always swerving away from goal and ends up a few yards wide.

When the Manchester United fans chanted Jose Mourinho's name just then, the Celta Vigo supporters responded with one of their own.

It also started with the words 'Jose Mourinho'. I don't speak Spanish but I don't think the next bit was complimentary.

That is actually a very good save there. 

The way Fellaini was running away from the goal there, you didn't think he was going to get there, but he wraps his foot around it and it is going in the bottom corner - a very good save. 

Another decent save from Sergio Alvarez! Marouane Fellaini close to his second of the night as his low shot is sneaking in at the near post but Alvarez claws it out.

Iago Aspas has had a running battle with referee Ovidiu Hategan all night and it ends with a booking for dissent as he once again complains about not getting a free-kick.

He needs a goal if his side are to have any chance of forcing a comeback. It doesn't look likely at the moment.
