Tottenham are flying right now, you could argue that at the moment they are the best team in the league.

I would expect some improvement from Manchester City after last week's heavy defeat against Everton but they are struggling defensively and this Spurs team will definitely create chances against them too.

Put it this way - I can see there being a few goals at both ends.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-2

What about your predictions? Got them in already?

John Stones is the fall-guy for Manchester City’s disastrous defensive display against Everton as Pep Guardiola reverts to - statistically at least - his most successful partnership in central defence. City have won all five Premier League games this season that Aleksandar Kolarov and Nicolas Otamendi have started together in a four-man back-line, and conceded only three goals in total.True, four of those games were against Bournemouth (h), Watford (h) and Burnley (h & a), but the other was against Arsenal before Christmas, a much tougher test.Despite missing the injured Jan Vertonghen, Tottenham’s three-man defence can also boast a 100% record this season, but Eric Dier, Kevin Wimmer and Toby Alderweireld have only played together once in a 3-4-2-1 formation, and were not exactly busy in their side’s 4-1 win over Watford on New Year’s Day.

Unfairly criticised? Rash at the back? Top defender? Top, top defender?

The 22-year-old is dropped to the bench today.

"I don't think he's improved," says Alan Shearer.

"He makes mistakes. But Otamendi is at fault for nearly every goal," says Phil Neville.

  6. 'Bravo's a false no.1'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2017

A caller to the 606 phone-in last weekend described Manchester City keeper Claiudio Bravo as "a false no. 1". Obviously not one to lose track of the latest tactical trends. So that's why Joe Hart was shipped to Turin...

Bravo may have a reputation for fancy footwork but, as my colleague Chris Bevan explains over here, he's also a shot-stopper who does not stop shots.

The 33-year-old Chile international has conceded 23 goals from the 57 shots on target he has faced in the Premier League this season.

Guardiola said defeat by Everton had knocked his side out of the title race.

"Forget the table. At the end of the season, we are going to evaluate our level and how our performance was, how the coach was, how the players were. After that we are going to decide."

But could the much-hyped Jose Mourinho v Pep Guardiola rivalry be settled by a place in the Europa League?

    Tottenham Hotspur

Meanwhile, Tottenham have been luxuriating in the richly deserved spoils of a seven-match winning run. Their last defeat was at Manchester United on 11 December.

So then, pretty much the last team City will feel like facing this late afternoon.

Plus, it was Spurs who ended their golden start to this campaign with a 2-0 win at White Hart Lane in October. That was Guardiola's first defeat at City.

Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs are seven points behind leaders Chelsea, who are at home to Hull tomorrow. Can they narrow the gap?

    Manchester City

It began with 10 consecutive wins in all competitions. It took them until October to lose a game. Can you remember what we all thought about Manchester City at the time?

"Maybe the expectations about my coming here and the commentary on us winning 10 games in a row were exaggerated," City boss Guardiola said on Friday.

"I don't understand the lack of respect for amazing players when people say they are not good enough for me.

"It is the first time I have been in this situation and I want to handle it, but I am not going to say my players are no good," he said. "I want to be top but we are not."

"Maybe I'm not good enough for them."

Man City v Tottenham (17:30 GMT)

Afternoon all, the teams are in.

Manchester City make two changes to the XI that started Sunday's 4-0 defeat by Everton.

Centre-back John Stones is dropped to the bench and replaced by Aleksandar Kolarov, while Bacary Sagna comes in for Leroy Sane who takes up a spot on the left wing.

Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus is on the bench after formally completing his £27m move from Palmeiras - and there's also a place on the bench for Vincent Kompany, in the squad for the first time since November.

On a seven-match winning run, Tottenham make just one change to the team that beat West Brom at White Hart Lane last weekend.

Jan Vertonghen, who suffered ankle ligament damage in the 4-0 win, is replaced by Austria defender Kevin Wimmer.

Ten points behind the leaders. Beaten 4-0 by Everton. It wasn't supposed to be like this.

We saw a whole new side to Pep Guardiola last weekend. There he was on the bench, at one point just staring blankly into space.

It took Manchester City years to land the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss and, now they have, it's certainly not all sweetness and light. 'Fraudiola', some have cruelly coined.

The man himself? Friday's words were all about doubt. "Maybe I'm not good enough for them," the Spaniard's been saying...
