    Reading 0-1 QPR

Reading free-kick from Liam Kelly is the first decent delivery they've produced in this first half, but Nedum Onuoha gets a vital touch on it to head behind for a corner.

Nothing comes from the following set-piece though.

    Reading 0-1 QPR

Little sign that Reading are finding a way through this QPR back line.

A move involving John Swift and Garath McCleary comes to nothing as Rangers soak up the pressure and clear at the first opportunity.

    Reading 0-1 QPR

Ali Al-Habsi goes rushing off his line and almost takes Pawel Wszolek out on the edge of his own area.

Reading escape further punishment as the winger goes too far wide on the angle and Joey van den Berg knocks it behind for a corner.

    Reading 0-1 QPR

Danny Williams takes aim from 30 yards, but his low right-foot is easy fielding practice for Alex Smithies in the QPR goal to his right.

    Reading 0-1 QPR

That Reading possession stat has grown now to 73% since they went behind.

Plenty of the ball for Stam's side, but nothing to show for it on the scoreboard so far...

You can't keep Jamie Mackie out of the action.

A bit of back-chat from the QPR striker sees him go in the referee's notebook, much to the delight of some of the home supporters.

Almost 2-0 for QPR and a second goal for former Royal Jamie Mackie.

Inside the penalty area once more in space, but his right-foot shot goes wide of the left post.

Incidentally, Mackie ignored all those rules about celebrating against your old club which lead to a few boos from the home fans.

    Reading 0-1 QPR

Quick response from Reading as John Swift takes aim from outside the area with a surging run.

Easily wide of Alex Smithies' goal though.

Well, Ian Holloway will be a happy man now as his side have taken the lead.

Former Reading striker Jamie Mackie is the beneficiary from a mistake in the Reading back four.

He's in acres of space at the back post from Ryan Manning's clever touch with the outside of his left foot.

Not really sure what Ian Holloway makes of this so far.

Is this part of his game-plan or just the limits of what QPR can do?

The most notable action so far isn't on the pitch, but off it.

TV cameras spot Tiago Illori in the stands with his family, the Liverpool central defender is set to complete a protracted move to Reading from Merseyside soon.

    Reading 0-0 QPR

We have our first corner of the night, it may have taken 22 minutes, but it's happened.

Reading are wasteful with it though, as it sails all the way through and out of play....

Jamie Mackie involved once more as QPR show half an inkling of threatening.

Decent ball threaded along the Reading six-yard box but just out of Idrissa Sylla's reach at the back post.

    Reading 0-0 QPR

Yann Kermorgant strays just offside as Liam Kelly finds him with a neat ball over the top towards the edge of the QPR area.

First decent bit of vision from the home side...

    Reading 0-0 QPR

    Possession, possession, possession.

That's been Jaap Stam's trademark with this Reading side since he took charge at the start of the season and so far the stats don't lie.

They've had 70% of the ball, but as yet just the one shot off target.

    Reading 0-0 QPR

Not a lot to shout about so far in this one it's fair to say.

Surely we're not on for a repeat of the drab affair these two served up in December 2015? (See 19:51 post)

    Reading 0-0 QPR

For those of you who are fans of footballers wearing short-sleeve shirts with gloves, Garath McCleary and Danny Williams are your men tonight in Reading's midfield.

Never understood the logic behind that.

Jamie Mackie meanwhile fires a shot from distance well over the Reading bar in QPR's first chance of note.

Safe to say Thursday night football isn't massively popular with the crowds.

It's only a short trip up the M4 from west London to the Madejski Stadium, but not many QPR fans seem that tempted judging by the sparse away section.

Not many more in the home stands either...

    Mick Gooding
Ex-Reading player/manager on BBC Radio Berkshire

"He (McCleary) struck it really well - unfortunately it was just half a yard over the bar of Smithies.

"There was lots of pace and power on the ball, but not that last bit of accuracy that he needed."

I don't think Mick noticed the fingertip save either!

    Reading 0-0 QPR

Sedate kind of start to things in Berkshire until Reading create the first half-chance of the night.

Garath McCleary fires a half-volley just over the bar from outside the area. Goal kick given although replays show Alex Smithies got a fingertip on it.
