    Man Utd 2-0 Reading

Liam Kelly thought he was about to score at Old Trafford.

The Reading midfielder is stood in the six-yard-box as a low cross is on its way to him but Michael Carrick is the right man in the right place to hack the ball clear from a few yards. A vital interception. Much better from the Championship side.

Danny Williams lands a wayward tackle on Marouane Fellaini on the halfway line to concede a free-kick. That's the nearest any Reading player has got to a home player all day.

    Man Utd 2-0 Reading

The first black point of the day for Manchester United as Marcos Rojo sits on the turf with an angry look on his face. He needs to be replaced and hobbles off, Phil Jones enters.

Rojo walks down the touchline towards the tunnel and shakes his head with his shin pad in his hand.

Reading are getting picked apart far, far too easily. It's a stroll in the park for Manchester United so far. If the hosts get a second soon then really the scoreline could become anything... Oh, there we are!

Every time a United attacker gets a ball they're being given a clear run on goal. The midfield are offering their defence no cover at all. At the top level you don't get this. United's players are loving this, they are having a ball. There are more goals in this for United.

What a lonely place the technical area is for Jaap Stam at the moment. What can he do?

    Anthony Martial

We may need to borrow the scoreboard from the nearby Old Trafford cricket ground as this is one-way.

A touch of class from Anthony Martial - again Wayne Rooney is involved as he forms the middle of a one-two.

When Martial gathers the return he progresses unchallenged towards the area and shapes a right-footed shot low around defenders into the corner. Very easy and the class of the finish exactly what's needed to punish timid defending.

There is just no pressure on the ball from Reading, they are chasing shadows and only a Tyler Blackett clearance saves them in the area.

    Man Utd 1-0 Reading

Manchester United have seen 74% of the ball in the opening 10 minutes. Reading just a yard or two off the pace and generally all too easily penetrated at the back. Even when they clear their lines Michael Carrick is sweeping up scraps in midfield to start the pressure again.

Juan Mata finds Anthony Martial in the area but his attempt to chip the keeper is easily gathered.

    Man Utd 1-0 Reading

We are seeing an utterly dominant Manchester United. Reading simply cannot get out of their half and the Championship side concede another corner.

The man of the moment Wayne Rooney will take it...headed clear... Juan Mata volleys... over.

Richard: Go on, Wayne! Go and break the record now!

John Dunthorne: Congratulations to Wayne Rooney! Yes a little sloppy for such an historic goal, but hard-earned.

Rico Scarz: Nothing to say except.... ROONEY! ROONEY! ROONEY! ROONEY!

GOAL - Man Utd 1-0 Readingpublished at 7 mins

    Wayne Rooney

    History.

They all count. Off the head, foot, even the knee in this case.

Wayne Rooney now sits alongside Sir Bobby Charlton as Manchester United's greatest ever scorer.

Goal 249 comes as Juan Mata's deft clipped cross finds its way to Rooney who dangles his right leg at it to nudge the ball home off his right knee.

A little ragged, but history will not remember how it went in. All that matters is that for the 249th time, it did.

    Some achievement.

    Man Utd 0-0 Reading

Manchester United seem to be happy to go long early on and it's earning rewards. This time Chris Smalling goes long towards Wayne Rooney and the ball skids through to Marcus Rashford. He's too wide to get a shot off.

Jaap Stam may well be concerned with the way his side have started defensively here.

I'm shocked by how wide Reading are playing. It's amazing to see. I appreciate that they want to spread the play and try to generate passing football, but goodness me Reading are brave. They could be 2-0 down already...

United are full of players who are up for it, because most of them don't play every week. Their play so far has been lightening quick.

A few familiar faces greeted Jaap Stam as he made his way to the visitors' dug-out.

Amongst them were Manchester United's club photographer and their mascot 'Fred the Red' who tapped Stam on the shoulder and put his arm round him.

Not sure what was said mind you.

    Man Utd 0-0 Reading

A rocket of a start as Manchester United go on the attack through Marcus Rashford. He picks the ball up in the middle of the Reading half and runs at the heart of the away defence. His shot from 25 yards is just a few feet wide and it was moving at pace.
