It's very laudable that Reading want to play a high defensive line, but players like Marcus Rashford and even Wayne Rooney are quicker than they are. So it's very dangerous, especially when your ineffective midfield is allowing people like Michael Carrick to pick their passes.

A last-ditch challenge right out of the textbook from Joey van den Berg at the heart of Reading's defence.

The Championship side are stretched again as Wayne Rooney pulls into the channel. His ball across goal is seemingly perfect for Marcus Rashford to finish but the Dutch defender slides to get a toe at the ball and flick it out of Rashford's path. That looked a certain goal.

If the referee gives Ashley Young a red card there I don't think he can argue. He had two feet off the ground and was showing his studs. 

There are referees who would have reached for their back pocket...

Jordan Obita screams after contact, Ashley Young has gone in two footed on him.

It could be a red, perhaps Young's saving grace was that he didn't dive in and leave the floor. He was late but arguably under control of his movement. That'll leave a bruise though.

Michael Carrick has completed 96% of his passes today and again he's in the heart of things to ping a ball at Marcus Rashford, Chris Gunter concedes a throw. The game being played in the Reading half and Carrick has a dig from range... a good push away by Ali Al Habsi.

Wayne Rooney will take the headlines but it's 15 unbeaten games with Michael Carrick in the side this season, 13 wins and two draws. This could be win 14 of course.

Fourteen of his 249 goals have come against Villa - more than any other side.

Wayne Rooney is lurking at the back stick for a cross from the right. He's unmarked... is this 250? Not quite. He stretches and makes contact but cannot steer the ball on target. It just had too much pace on it.

I was fortunate enough to be at Old Trafford to cover his United debut, when he scored a sensational hat-trick against Fenerbahce on 28 September 2004.

He has rarely been out of the headlines since and it is only a matter of time before he takes the club record on his own.

It was fitting though for Sir Bobby Charlton to be here as his 249 tally was matched.

My favourite? The first-time volley he smashed in against Newcastle at Old Trafford in 2005.
