    Josh Windass (Rangers)

    Where to? Hull

    How much? £3m

Josh Windass could go where dad Dean was a hero as part of Hull’s attempt to stay in the Premier League – and replace all the players that they have sold.

It’s inevitable that Windass Jr would be linked with the club where his father became a legend, but reports suggest a bid is yet to be lodged.

As one fast winger heads out, it looks as though another will be heading into Wigan.

Gabriel Obertan is well known to Latics manager Warren Joyce from their time together at Manchester United.

It is fair to say Obertan did not impress hugely during his two years at Old Trafford.

    He is very quick, though.

Barnsley have signed left-back Callum Elder on loan from Leicester City until the end of the season.

Another January TDD, another disappointing day, another move for Robbie Keane, who left Spurs for Celtic on loan.

Latterly disgraced Adam Johnson joined Manchester City from Middlesbrough for £7m and Asmir Begovic swapped Portsmouth for Stoke for £4m, but that was about it.

Who said that January deadline day was interesting? What are we going to talk about for the next 12 hours?

  13. How does it all work?published at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Paul PogbaImage source, Getty Images

Steven Flynn, barrister at St Johns Buildings: “Permanent transfers at the elite level of the game are very complex, involving at least three separate negotiations taking place concurrently. While there are obviously discussions between the selling club and the buying club, the buying club also must negotiate with the player’s agent regarding both the player’s personal terms, as well as the agent’s commission for the transfer.

“Issues surrounding image rights agreements, agency fees and transfer fee payment schedules delay completion of such deals more than anything in the Fifa regulations. As such, negotiating the purchase of a player like Paul Pogba would normally begin between six months and a year before the transfer takes place, meaning that planning is of the utmost importance."

Breathe easy, West Ham fans. Demba Ba will not be joining you.

Despite David Sullivan admitting that the Hammers were in for Ba, Besiktas have done you a favour and signed the 31-year-old on loan from Shanghai Shenua instead.

    Seriously, what were they thinking?

    Andros Townsend

    Where to? Newcastle United

    How much? Loan

Palace paid Newcastle £13m for the England winger only six months ago, with Toon boss Rafa Benitez admitting he would like Townsend back at St James’ Park.

The Eagles, battling against relegation, are unlikely to want Townsend to move, but will the player think that a switch to the north is his best chance of Premier League football next season?

If the deal is on, will Palace really let him leave on loan, or will they want some of their money back?

  20. 'The Spurs rumour mill latest'published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Tottenham Hotspur
Alan Fisher, co-author of A People’s History of Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said yesterday that the chances making a signing today is 0.01%, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from turning.

Young players, sorry, “wonderkids”, top the list: Ryan Sessegnon, the 16-year-old Fulham full-back, Feyenoord striker Ozancan Kokcu at 18 or Youri Tielemans from Anderlecht’s midfield, a veteran at 19.

Jay Rodriguez used to play for Poch at Southampton so he’s in the frame too. Warning: the word ‘could’ features heavily in these reports. I could run the marathon and appear on Vogue’s front cover but then again I’m a podgy middle-aged bald asthmatic. Could happen, mind…
