Here's more on that Saints signing, with director of football Les Reed saying: “Mouez is a promising young goalkeeper, and we are very pleased to have been able to bring him to Southampton.

“He has built an excellent reputation during his time with Nice and also in his country’s youth teams, and will provide us with further depth in the months ahead.

“As well as adding to our squad, we believe Mouez can continue his development in his time at Southampton and make strides in his own game under the expert guidance of our Head of Goalkeeping, Dave Watson, as well as working alongside Fraser Forster."

Southampton have signed Nice goalkeeper Mouez Hassen on a five-month loan deal.

Presumably, the 21-year-old will provide cover for Fraser Forster, with regular number two Alex McCarthy out injured.

Hassen has won 14 caps for France Under-21s.

Please, please let this be true. It would make a move for Demba Ba look like Blackburn signing Alan Shearer.

I'm not sure I'm having that. No Arsenal fan would be so happy that Joey Barton has signed that they would get his name shaved into the back of their head.

Can you even fit 'Barton' on the back of a normal head?

I once told my mate that Joey Barton was a done deal and that he'd signed for Arsenal. Next day I saw him and he'd gotten Barton's name shaved into the back of his head. Oh how we laughed when he signed for QPR!

Does Emmanuel Adebayor sign all of his tweets 'S.E.A - Super Emmanuel Adebayor?'

Nope. His first name is Sheyi. So there you go.

The 32-year-old former Manchester City and Arsenal striker joined Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir earlier today.

I was one of the staff working at the Chelsea club shop the day before deadline day in 2008 and was in the process of printing a pack of Robinho 10 jerseys, only to be told to stop as Chelsea pulled out of negotiations.

A year on from the Torres-Carroll-Suarez bombs, 2012 was never likely to touch those heights – Louis Saha moving from Everton to Spurs doesn’t quite get the juices flowing in the same way.

However, one deadline-day deal of 2012 does catch the eye – Chelsea signing little-known Belgian winger Kevin de Bruyne and immediately loaning him back to Genk.

De Bruyne would only ever make three Premier League appearances for the Blues before fading into obscurity…

Out of interest, have you ever been involved in deadline day?

I mean, did you ever have to pick up a player from the station and drop him off at your club? Have you ever tipped your club off to a player and then they signed him?

Have you ever waited outside all night, hoping to get a glimpse of a new signing? Were you the one that got a player's name on the back of a shirt, only for him not to sign?

    Let me know.

  20. On this day - 2011published at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    The best deadline day ever?

A year on from a huge flop, this was explosive. Fernando Torres was long courted by Chelsea, he fluttered his eyelashes in the other direction, but a then-British record fee of £50m was only agreed when Liverpool had lined up replacements.

The capture of Luis Suarez proved to be a shrewd one – he certainly has a greater impact at Anfield than Torres did during his hellish stay at Stamford Bridge. The less said about £35m Andy Carroll’s time at Liverpool, though, the better.

Alongside all of that, David Luiz joined Chelsea from Benfica for £21.3m. In hindsight, he might have just been the best signing of the lot.
