Erstwhile Middlesbrough target Jese's loan move to Las Palmas from PSG is confirmed, with the club underlining that the 23-year-old's keenness to join his hometown club was "fundamental" in helping them beat Premier League competition for him.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the €12 million signing of Jamaican teenage midfielder Leon Bailey from Genk - who strongly interested Hull - while Emmanuel Adebayor has found his landing spot at unlikely Turkish high-fliers Basaksehir. Sceptics please note that they are successfully getting a tune out of former Newcastle enigma Emre this season....

  2. Sakho set for Palace switch?published at 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

There is still a strong possibility that Liverpool central defender Mamadou Sakho will leave Anfield before tonight's transfer deadline - with Crystal Palace the most likely destination.

Liverpool want £20m for the France international, who has also attracted interest from Southampton, Swansea City, Sevilla in La Liga and Turkish side Galatasaray, to move permanently but no-one has yet met their asking price.

Palace are currently leading the race to sign Sakho - but no deal has yet been agreed and at this stage a loan move is the most likely outcome.

We don't expect any incoming signings on deadline day, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Ashley Young join another Premier League club.

Young has been a good servant to United down the years, and always made an attempt to watch his teammates with United's away following whenever not selected for the match day squad.

We have a lot of respect for Young, so could only wish him the best if he was to leave before the window shuts.

Andrey Arshavin - Zenit St Petersburg to Arsenal

This was the deadline day that wasn’t, a transfer window extended to 2 February because 31 January was a Saturday, then again because of the wintery weather.

It was that snow that kept us waiting on Andrey Arshavin’s move to Arsenal, a life in north London that began with four goals at Anfield, and ended with him barely able to hit a barn door.

Across London, Spurs welcomed back Robbie Keane, only six months after he left for Liverpool. Buying for £20.3m and selling for £12m did not represent good business by the Reds.

  8. Busy Villapublished at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

Today's proposed deals could mean it's Aston Villa's busiest January transfer window since the system began in 2003.

Already five players have arrived since the start of the month and today could see the signings of Scott Hogan from Brentford, Neil Taylor from Swansea and young defender Jacob Bedeau from Bury.

It's understood Villa have matched Brentford's asking price of £15m, with West Ham this morning dropping out of the bidding.

Taylor's close to signing with striker Jordan Ayew going the other way to Swansea, plus an extra £5m for Villa.

Meanwhile Ashley Westwood looks like leaving Villa to join Burnley, either on a loan deal with a £5m option to buy in the summer, or a permanent deal today.

  9. News from Spainpublished at 12:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

The biggest news in Spain is that of a non-transfer, with Sevilla confirming a new deal for Steven N’Zonzi, who had been heavily linked to Manchester City and Juventus. One of La Liga's standouts this season, he extends his contract to 2020, and raises his buyout clause - the amount has not been specified by the club but is believed to be €40 million.

Across the city of Seville, Betis are reportedly trying to get Sunderland's Wahbi Khazri on loan. Celta Vigo are interested too, seeing the Algerian midfielder as a replacement for the outgoing Fabian Orellana, who is expected to join Valencia today.

  10. Silva rules out Robertson salepublished at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Hull City

Hull full-back Andy Robertson had been linked with a move to Burnley, but Tigers boss Marco Silva has ruled out a sale

"He is not leaving, he is our player. He is important for us and he is preparing to play tomorrow night," said Silva.

And here's Silva on new signing Andrea Ranocchia. The Italian defender is on loan for the rest of the season.

"Andrea has come here to improve our squad and is ready to play. He’s an international quality player with great experience."

David Cowlishaw, The Wizards of Drivel

Some cover in defence is the top priority for many Stoke fans, so it has been worrying to see Marc Muniesa and Glen Johnson linked away in recent days.

However, maybe Mark Hughes already has his man as it appears Phillip Wollscheid could be returning from his loan spell at Wolfsburg. Potters fans would rather the club went out to sign some new blood, however.

West Ham have suffered criticism about the stadium move and lack of investment in players, but they’ve put a few wrongs right. They’ve signed Jose Fonte from Southampton, which is an outstanding acquisition.

I feel like we need a right-back and Ashley Young would be ideal. He’s been playing there for them, and could do a great job for West Ham.

  15. Goodbye to a legend?published at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Ross Mooring, ChelseaFancast.com

Chelsea are looking like having a relatively quiet end to the January transfer window, with the only likely move being the departure of club legend Branislav Ivanovic, who said goodbye with a goal on Saturday after 376 appearances during which period he won every major club honour in the game.

Asmir Begovic has been told he can leave, but only if a replacement keeper is found, however an attempt to sign Celtic's Craig Gordon has been sternly rebuffed and it looks like he will stay until the summer.

Speaking of Middlesbrough, Boro striker Arnel Jakupovic has left the club to join Italian Serie A side Empoli for an undisclosed fee.

Afonso Alves – Heerenveen to Middlesbrough (£10m)

Jermain Defoe’s move from Spurs to Portsmouth may have grabbed the headlines, but it was a deadline-day move for striker Afonso Alves that scarred Middlesbrough fans.

The Brazilian arrived with a big reputation after a prolific record in the Netherlands, but never lived up to his club-record pricetag.

He didn’t score until April, and three of his 10 Premier League goals came in one 8-1 hammering of Manchester City. He scored four the following season, when Boro were relegated.
