New signing Reece Oxford wants to get more minutes and propel Reading to Premier League.

Reece Oxford wasn't even walking when Reading boss Jaap Stam helped Manchester United to their treble in 1999, but he still knows enough about what working with the Dutchman can do for his career.

"I haven't really watched him as I was only just born at the time he was playing," the 18-year-old centre-back told BBC Radio Berkshire after joining on loan from West Ham this week.

"Hopefully I can follow in his footsteps as everyone's told me he was such a good player and I can be in his team and he can show me a few things."

Oxford starts on the bench for his new side at Ipswich today.

  3. Rovers returnpublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2017

There's an old proverb about not counting chickens before they've hatched but Doncaster Rovers fans could be forgiven for having one eye on League One.

Darren Ferguson's men are 16 points clear of fourth-placed Exeter City and seven ahead of second-placed Plymouth.

They'll be looking to boost their promotion credentials with a win against Morecambe.

Elsewhere in League Two, the Pilgrims face a difficult trip to Cambridge and third-placed Carlisle visit crisis club Leyton Orient.

The O's are on their 10th manager since 2014 and BBC Sport have taken a closer look at what's going on in East London.

It's been an eventful few years for Scunthorpe.

Relegated from the Championship in 2011 they then suffered relegation to League Two just two years later.

Russ Wilcox took them on a 28-match unbeaten run to earn promotion back to League One the following year but was replaced by Mark Robins after a slow start to the following season.

Robins was then shown the door last January and his replacement Graham Alexander has led the team to the top of League One.

Should results go their way today the Iron could end Saturday 11 points clear of third place with a win at Southend.

Elsewhere in League One, second-placed Sheffield United host AFC Wimbledon while third-placed Bolton and fourth-placed Fleetwood face tricky trips to MK Dons and Charlton respectively.

It's fair to say it's been a tough old season for Rotherham.

Alan Stubbs was sacked in October, just five months after taking over and his replacement Kenny Jackett walked away in November.

The Millers have put coach Paul Warne (above) in caretaker charge until the end of the campaign but remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

They start today's game at 20th-placed Bristol City 12 points adrift of safety and seemingly in need of the kind of miracle that saw Neil Warnock keep them up last season.

Owen Coyle's Blackburn could move out of the relegation zone if they beat QPR and Burton lose at home to the rejuvenated Wolves.

Wednesday's win at Wigan saw them move back above Derby to go sixth in the table.

Tomorrow sees Fifth-placed Huddersfield host fourth-placed Leeds on Sunday while leaders Brighton, fresh from a 3-1 defeat at Huddersfield on Thursday, travel to Brentford.

That means Newcastle will go back to the top of the table if they can avoid defeat against the Rams today.

Meanwhile, third-placed Reading travel to beleaguered Ipswich looking to put some pressure on the top two.

The Royals are confounding a lot of pre-season expectations but if you had Jaap Stam (above) shouting at you from the sidelines you'd probably make sure you didn't upset him too often.

The weekend's EFL action got under way on Friday with Sheffield Wednesday's win at struggling Wigan.

The Owls took the lead in the first half through Ross Wallace's goal and held out for a victory that moved them into the top six in the Championship.

Wigan remain in the relegation zone.

Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan told BBC Radio Sheffield after the game: "It was ugly. That's not a game I'll remember. That pitch didn't help."

It might have been a quiet transfer deadline day in the Premier League but the EFL saw a huge amount of business done with Wigan alone signing 8 (eight) players on 31 January.

Of the more eye-catching deals Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor moved across the city to rivals Bristol City, becoming the first player in 30 years to make the switch.

Cue Rovers protesting to the EFL and his new boss Lee Johnson admitting Taylor was 'very brave' to make the move.

With that in mind we'd like to hear your favourite stories about players who moved to their team's arch rivals.

    Closed. Slammed shut. Over.

However you put it the facts are the same, the 72 EFL clubs are now restricted to the players they have right now until the end of the season.

Maybe you lost your best player and replaced him with someone out of the youth team or maybe your team spent £15m on a striker from a club who beat you 3-0 that night... Either way, business is done and now we're back down to the important stuff.

Good afternoon and welcome to Saturday's EFL live text.
