Today's game at the Riverside probably has more importance for the bottom of the table than the top. Boro desperately need a win to start trying to claw their way out of trouble.

Manchester United dropped out of the place they have made their own this season - sixth - yesterday. They can, however, overtake Arsenal and move up to fifth with a win today.

Wayne Rooney hasn’t played much and there is a doubt over his fitness, but I think his message, Gareth Southgate, is that he is going to make tough decisions.

If Wayne Rooney isn’t playing for Manchester United then he can’t be playing for England.

Southgate sees Rooney as a 10 and obviously thinks England have enough talent going forward.

Southgate’s idea that he picks the side, then the captain, is a complete change of policy.

He won't take him to the World Cup if he's not playing, I'm convinced of that.

Happy to play on Sunday, Jose? Not at midday...

The Manchester United boss says the Premier League has no interest in helping English clubs in Europe.

United's game at Middlesbrough today comes 62 hours after the end of their Europa League last-16 victory over FC Rostov.

Mourinho says United will "probably lose" and it would be "common sense" for the game to start at 17:00.

"They simply don't care," added the Portuguese of the Premier League, who offered no comment on the situation.

Jay: If he is ready to clear out deadwood and buy world class (even if overpriced) players, Wenger should stay.

Shaun Beasley: Can't blame Wenger for gutless players and no appetite to turn up when they are supposedly world class players, players lack respect.

Idle Creep: Arsene's off. If he's staying there's no reason not to say, he's keeping it quiet to minimise the already high media attention.

I think Arsenal fans will be relieved of this misery very soon. I can't see Wenger continuing when nearly every single Arsenal fan has had enough.

Some are screaming for him to go, some are pleading for him to stay. Arsene knows what he's going to do, but what do you think? Will he stay, will he go, will he open a small coffee shop in Shoreditch where homegrown, young waiters pass your drink to each other for 15 minutes but never actually stick it down on the table?

What do you think Arsene Wenger's future holds?

  15. 'I think he'll stay'published at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2017

Arsene Wenger and Tony PulisImage source, EPA

Tony Pulis has caused Wenger more than a little heartache down the years, but the West Brom boss is fully behind the Frenchman...

“He’s probably the greatest manager Arsenal have ever had but they could still finish in top four and win an FA Cup final and that’s a great deal for Arsenal football club," said Pulis.

“Arsene will recognise the situation he’s in. I still think he’ll stay. He had the opportunity and chance of managing one of the great clubs in the world, a fantastic club. Yes they want (to win) a championship and do better and I think he will believe he can still do that.”

  16. 'Time for a change'published at 10:28 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2017

Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp was on Sportsweek this morning. Inevitably, he was asked about Wenger and if he were the Frenchman, would he walk away?

"I would think so, yes," replied Redknapp. "He’s had a fantastic career. He has been a great manager for Arsenal. Everyone has got great respect for him, what he’s achieved over the years.

"Maybe now it is time for a change. Even from Arsenal’s point of view, it’s time for a new brush to come in and brighten the place up.

"I’d hate for him to get chased out every week by the fans, he doesn’t deserve that but I do think it is time maybe now for a change."

  17. "Historic new low"published at 10:24 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2017

England's highs and lows in Ireland dominates the Mail back page, but they do make mention of Wenger, describing yesterday's defeat as the club hitting an "historic new low".

Really? Historic new low? Do they not remember the season under Bruce Rioch? Or how about when they were relegated in 1912-13?

Could it also be game over for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

The Gunners boss had another afternoon to forget yesterday as Tony Pulis came back to haunt him again, courtesy of a 3-1 scoreline at the Hawthorns.

There were planes carrying banners overhead - both pro and anti Wenger - and home-made signs in the crowd, pleading for him to go.

After the game, Wenger revealed that he had made a decision on his future, but he wasn't telling just yet. The big tease.
