More from Pep Guardiola, who has called for a little more noise from the City fans...

"I want to stay with the guys for a long long time. I don't want to change anything. I want to stay here and help this club make a step forward and battle to qualify for the Champions League will be until the last day.

"We played three days after going out of the Champions League. How the players suffer and fight to qualify against Barcelona, Borussia Monchengladbach, how we play in the second half against Monaco, to be out was so tough for all of us.

"The players in training did not speak. How they react against Liverpool means a lot.

"The fans were amazing sometimes they are a little quiet, they have to be so proud of the players."

"Liverpool are in a battle with Arsenal and Manchester United for the top four. Two of those will miss out. The other three are sorted with Chelsea, Tottenham and City.

"You will never get me asking a manager to leave his position but the reaction of the Arsenal players told. You saw it with Leicester, and Chelsea last season. When Arsene Wenger needed his players  most, they did not perform."

Former England striker Alan Shearer on Facebook Live: "Both Manchester City and Liverpool had big chances to win it but a draw was probably a fair result. City could not afford to lose this game, partly after what happened against Monaco, they needed a reaction and performance

"I am not sure it is Pep Guardiola's proudest performance after what he achieved as a coach and player. He was pleased with the commitment and passion of his players. It was strange thing to say."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talking to Sky Sports: "To get a point at Manchester City for each team in the world is absolutely OK.

"There were a few situations where we couldn't defend their quality. We could have won this game, because we forced the goalkeeper into a few outstanding saves.

"We a phase between 50-70 where we had them and didn't close the game. We let them recover on the pitch, so they came back.

"They deserved the goal, but we could have scored more. Two highly motivated sides, both wanted to win until the last seconds."

  19. One of my happiest days as a manager - Guardiolapublished at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2017

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is pretty pleased speaking to Sky Sports.

Asked how happy he was with the performance, he said: “You cannot imagine. It is one of the happiest days of my career as a manager. I am so proud.

“After the Champions League, the last few days at training people were so, so, sad, people don’t talk too much. We arrive here against Liverpool who have no Europe all season and one week to prepare. The spirit, how we played, it is one of my happiest days as a manager.

“We created more than them. Our problem is we don’t score when they are easy goals. At least we showed spirit that we didn’t show in the first half in Monaco.

“When you approach one game after 10 games winning nothing is special. You have to consider the situation we played this game, how we played against them, a top team - they have exceptional players – means a lot to me. That is why I am so happy."
