    Barcelona 3-1 Sporting Gijon

It's calmed down a little at the Nou Camp.

Javier Mascherano takes out Sporting's Burgui with one of his no-nonsense tackles.

    Standard.

    Barca have a corner.

    Luis Suarez

    Cripes!

    What a finish pal.

To quote Boris Becker, "he hit the ball like a melon". I don't quite know what that means either.

Luis Suarez rockets a volley past keeper Ivan Cuellar after Ivan Rakitic's cross is headed away by Sporting defender Babin into the line-of-fire of the Uruguayan.

That's four goals in 27 minutes. Nice.

    Well well well.

Maybe Sporting aren't for the spanking.

Sergio Alvarez gets away down the right side of the Barca area and nudges a shot against the post - it pops back out to Carlos Castro who taps in.

    Barcelona 2-0 Sporting Gijon

You know how I mentioned that Sporting were playing a solid line a couple of posts ago...

Well, Lionel Messi just sprung the offside trap after a Sporting defender opted not to stay in line with his team-mates. The Argentine picked up Javier Mascherano's lofted ball and applied a simple finish after Ivan Cuellar went AWOL from his goalline.

Moments later, Luis Suarez surged into the area and attempted an angled shot which still went in after Juan Rodriguez got his feet all mixed up about two yards from goal.

    Great start Sporting!

    Barcelona 0-0 Sporting Gijon

Neymar looks to thread a pass through to Luis Suarez - do they get on? - but it's well read by Babin in the Sporting six-yard area.

Sporting are playing a solid line at the back - for the moment.

  9. Quarter of a chance for Sportingpublished at 3 mins

    Barcelona 0-0 Sporting Gijon

Sporting's Elderson Echiejile crosses the ball from the left but Castro fails to trouble anybody bar the fans behind the goal with his flicked effort.

At the other end Rafinha, who scored against Atletico, cuts inside in the right of the area and tries to bend one into the far corner - but applies not enough... well... bend.

Atletico Madrid 1-2 Barcelona, 15:15 GMT KO

Barca are getting pummelled at Vicente's casa.

The defence looks at sixes and sevens and had it not been for Marc-Andre ter Stegen's heroics in the first half they could easily have been two down.

They took a surprise second-half lead before Diego Godin levelled. Surely the likely winners would now be Atletico, but no.

Much to coach Luis Enrique's amusement and opposite number Diego Simeone's bemusement, up popped Lionel Messi in the 86th minute to score his 22nd goal against Los Colchoneros.

    Sunday, 26 February

Villarreal 2-3 Real Madrid, 19:45 GMT KO

Real are getting pummelled at the stadium of ceramics.

The defence looks at sixes and sevens as Villarreal overwhelm them and take a two-goal lead early in the second half.

Gareth Bale, taking time out from opening his new bar, gives Real hope with a header.

Then comes a hotly-disputed penalty decision - Ronaldo scores - and then Alvaro Morata does what Alvaro Morata does best - score at a crucial time - as Real come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and retake top spot in La Liga.

Isn't it great when Barcelona and Real Madrid play on the same day?

We have Barca up first. They ibuprofen finally kicked in from the hangover suffered over at PSG (horrific) and Leganes (less so because they won) when they recorded a dramatic late win at Atletico

They are at home to 18th place Sporting Gijon. Should be a breeze eh? Team news coming up.

That is followed by Real Madrid, possibly still wondering how they defeated Villarreal at the weekend, at home to Las Palmas (20:30 GMT).

So settle back and enjoy the fun in the Spanish ...er... night.
